Just Say No….To White Ceilings

Remember to look up, the ceiling is so important in a room and can totally set the tone and mood and make or break a room.  One of the first things we consider when working on our homes or redoing a room is what we are going to put on the walls.  Will it be painted and if so what color, or maybe you want to use one of the newest wallpapers out there. We also focus on the floors, will it be tile, wood or carpet and what about a rug? ceiling can totally be an accent wall, paint the four walls of your room your main color then pull a coordinating color from your fabrics or the rug and use that on the ceiling.

This is also a great opportunity to mimic the sky and paint your ceiling a very light blue.

In our home, we are working on lightening things up and going more neutral as far as paint colors, so I’ve been painting walls and ceiling the same color, it feels very cohesive.  It’s kinda crazy how jarring white ceilings are in a room painted a color when you think about it.

Another option is wallpaper.  There are some amazing papers out there and you can be as subtle or as wild as you want to be.

Again, this is a great opportunity to get some color up above as well as a pattern.  I definitely want to paper at least one ceiling in our home, now I have to decide if I’m brave enough to try to do it myself or bring in a professional.

So, remember when you’re deciding what to do in a room as far as color and pattern, don’t forget the ceiling.  After all, most of us have nowhere to go but UP.

Words are my own.
