Tomorrow is the birthday of British Interior Designer Nicholas ‘Nicky’ Haslam, so we are celebrating him today as a Tabulous Tastemaker.

Haslam was born in England in 1939 to a diplomat father and socialite mother, their third son and fourth child.  Following school Haslam lived for a short time in America in Arizona where he and his partner had an Arabian horse ranch, he combined this with being a photographer in LA and designing rooms for famous clients.

In 1972 Haslam returned to London where he was soon put to work decorating rooms for London’s high society.  He had a showroom for several years and today heads up an international company, N H Design,  and a multi-national staff of designers and decorators taking care of projects around the world.

In addition to his design work Haslam is known to be quite an artist, with some of  his watercolors of interiors in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Nicholas Haslam’s style appeals to me, I love how he does a room in a traditional manner but then puts a major twist on it.  Whether it’s a traditionally shaped chair in a so contemporary fabric or faux bois wallpaper in a colored metallic finish, his take on things is beautiful.  Join me as we take a look at the work of Nicky Haslam and wish him a very Happy Birthday.
