We are home from a sort of short notice last minute vacation. We didn’t go anywhere this summer and Michael had one week of vacation left plus some personal days and if you don’t use them you lose them, and he had a BIG birthday this month, so to celebrate we went to London.
I love England, there’s so much history, art, architecture and pubs. I’m a planner, I like to research and find out what’s going on in a city while we are going to be there, but I also just like to “stroll” around and take in the sights and people (I’m a big people watcher).
So today I’m going to share some of the sights of London with you we took in on our first day in town, then in the days to come I’ll share all the specific tours and grand sights of England. Enjoy!!!
The London Eye ferris wheel and the London Aquarium.
Queen Elizabeth Tower, more popularly known as Big Ben.
Our first evening we took a walk along the Thames and had supper in a little
pizza shop. This is one of the light poles along the river with St. Paul’s in the distance.
How’s this for repurposing, a double decker bus turned into a fro-yo shop, order below
and dine on your frozen treat upstairs.
There’s a whole area along Thames devoted to graffiti and skateboarding.
There’s also this beautiful carousel along the Thames.
I’m not sure, but I think I’m saying “take the bloody picture”.
We left the river Thames area and headed towards St. Paul’s to get some night pics
of the cathedral and the city of London. Came across this awesome pub, The Black Friar.
St. Paul’s is beautiful any time of day, but at night it’s especially beautiful with all the lighting.
Looking up over the great west front doors of St. Paul’s Cathedral.
Of course it’s not London if it doesn’t rain, headed back to the hotel
and a real downpour moved into town, but it does make for a lovely picture
of lights, shiny streets and umbrellas.
Gloucester Road underground station was our jumping off point every morning and
our last stop every day. Mind The Gap!!!
All pictures are my own.
