I thought this week was very appropriate to do a post I have been contemplating for a while on fireplaces, especially since most of the U.S. has been in the deep freeze the last several days and many of us are dealing with snow a little earlier this year than usual.

I love fireplaces, we don’t have one in our home now but it’s on the list of updates I want to make to the house. Living today in a world of central heat and air conditioning it’s hard to believe that fireplaces and wood burning stoves were the main or only source of heat for many people not that long ago. My dad has often told me stories of how his own father would get up really early on winter mornings and start a fire in the wood burning stove to heat up parts of their farm house, so that when he and his five brothers and my grandmother would get up from their warm beds it wouldn’t be “quite” as cold.
Today fireplaces are very much a focal point in a home, we cover them in all kinds of materials, ranging from tile and stone to barn board and antique mantels. Join me today as we explore fireplaces and all the possibilities of the place where we love to hang our stockings, Enjoy!!!
