Lighting Up OKC: Automobile Alley

December 18, 2014

By Tab Byrum

We took a little trip the other night to what’s known here in Oklahoma City as Automobile Alley.  Beginning in the 1920’s this stretch of Broadway Avenue in OKC was home to most of the car dealerships in town, but in the 70’s and 80’s most of the car dealers moved to the suburbs and this area of town fell into decline.

Over the last 20 years there has been a movement to revive Automobile Alley with businesses such as restaurants, retail and corporations moving into the former dealerships and opening up shop.  Automobile Alley has gained a reputation over the last few years for it’s displays of lights flowing over the tops of and down the sides of the buildings and lighting up the Oklahoma night with walls of bright colors.  Next time you’re in town or if it’s your first time here, check out Automobile Alley.  Enjoy!!!
