Several years ago I was introduced to a great little device that is not only pretty in it’s own right but is only made more beautiful when fresh flowers are added, and it results in beautiful flower arrangements. The piece I’m focusing on today is called a Tulipiere, it was created in Europe to grow tulips in and not as a vase for cut flowers, which is how it’s more used today in the 21st Century. The Tulipiere was created from clay or blue and white delftware, and was originally conceived in the 17th Century.
Each opening in the Tulipiere would accomodate one bloom with all the flowers using the common water source of the pot they are in. Tulipieres became something of a status symbol, with some of them being made so large they could sit on the floor, these were also indicators of their owner’s wealth. You can still find Tulipieres occasionally in antique stores and some companies today still produce them, I like to use them for flower arrangements using flowers other than tulips or other bulb flowers and today they are made from other materials such as clear glass and in lots of different colors. Let’s take a look at Tulipieres and the gorgeous flowers they hold, Enjoy!!!
