Among my favorite things to read are biographies and autobiographies, I really enjoy the stories of people’s lives and what made them and got them to where they wanted to be. I recently read My Paris Dream by Kate Betts and I LOVED it.

The book follows Betts after college graduation and her decision to move to Paris and see if she can make it there. Kate Betts tells us about the family she lived with after she first moved to Paris and the struggle she had to find a job, eventually landing an intern job at Women’s Wear Daily’s Paris office, we follow her on photo shoots and to the Paris fashion shows as she goes from novice reporter to fashion expert extraordinaire. I really enjoyed her descriptions of the City of Light and how excited she was in finding her first apartment that was truly all hers.

Betts shares with us falling in and out of love as well as all the fascinating people she met and worked with in the world of high fashion and what it took to become one of those people.  If you are into fashion this is a great read about Paris of the late 1980’s early 90’s and what it took to make it there. From Yves St. Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld to Helmut Lang and Anna Wintour, they’re all here. This is a great summer read while you’re on that flight or lounging on vacation. Enjoy!!!
