I have to admit that I had never heard of Shiatzy Chen until I began working on this assignment, but once I began investigating I was mesmerized and fascinated by the colors, cuts and look of their beautiful clothing.

Shiatzy Chen was founded in 1978 by Wang Chen Tsai-Hsia, often referred to as the Chanel of Taiwan, Shiatzy Chen is where the fashion influences of the East and the West collide with beautiful results, clothing cut in a more Western manner but having Eastern influences such as mandarin collars and Chinese patterned fabrics.

Wang Chen Tsai-Hsia was born in 1951 and learned her trade by working in her uncle’s clothing factory, she and her husband founded Shiatzy Chen in ’78 ¬†and have worked for almost 40 years to build their reputation creating what they call the “New Look of China”.

Today Shiatzy Chen has stores all over Asia as well as in Paris and show every season at the Paris fashion shows. The eastern influence can definitely be seen in their creations through the texture and movement of fabrics as well as the embroidery techniques used to create beautiful patterns on the silhouettes. Join us today as we enter the world of Shiatzy Chen and come back tomorrow as we discuss and peer into the pages of the new book, Shiatzy Chen, from Assouline Publishing. Enjoy!!!
