July 9th is National Sugar cookie day and I couldn’t be happier, I love sugar cookies, they don’t even have to be decorated, growing up we had sugar cookies a lot and they were baked and sprinkled with just plain sugar. Eventually mom and I got into decorating cookies and even did some cookie bouquets which was a lot of fun. Sugar cookie dough is a very basic dough of sugar, flour, butter, eggs, vanilla and either baking powder or baking soda, after that you can be as elaborate or as simple as you want with the icing and decorations.
Today we are going to take a look at sugar cookie design and see just how artistic people are getting with their cookies. There are all kinds of cookie cutters on the market to create shapes for all the major holidays as well as everyday shapes like school buses, bees, people and the list goes on and on. Join me as we talk a look at what was once just cookie baking that has really become a craft and an art. Enjoy!!!
There’s nothing gory or hideous about these Day Of The Dead cookies.

Perfect treat for a Little Mermaid party.
Love this idea of stacked and filled sugar cookies. Leave the top and bottom cookie whole, cut out the center of the 2 middle cookies, stack them with icing between the layers, fill with your favorite treat, ice and decorate the top cookie.
Sometimes simple is best, heart cookies iced with a knife and decorated with simple flowers.

These bookworm and pencil cookies may be my favorites, and if I’m not mistaken the worms are made by using a snowman cutter and turning the cookies upside down to decorate, so that the bottom is now the head and the snowman head is now the bottom of the worm.
