Pickin’ Blueberries

August 13, 2015

I was out of town last week, I traveled to Connecticut with BFF Donna to visit her sister/BFF2, Tracy, who lives in Manchester, Connecticut. Tracy had surgery so we went to help her out for several days while she recovered. There’s no better time to travel to Connecticut then right now, the weather is beautiful with temps in the 80’s during the days and dipping into the 50’s at night, and maybe best of all the blueberries are at their peak.

We decided to visit one of the local farms that allow you to pick your own blueberries, buy what you pick and take them home. Tracy’s 2 kids, Matt and Julia, took us to the blueberry farm and the 4 of us had a great time. The day was beautiful and before we knew it we had picked something like 14 pounds of berries, some of them as big as grapes and all of them as sweet as candy.

Rose’s Berry Farm is in South Glastonbury, Connecticut.

We took our fresh picked berries and headed home, I mixed some with sliced strawberries and a little sugar and we ate them with cream and Donna whipped up a delicious blueberry pie, luckily Matt has his driver’s license so he ran out and got us vanilla ice cream to have with our warm pie. It was a beautiful and fun day in Connecticut. Enjoy!!!

Berries aren’t the only thing growing here, the flowers all around the farm are beautiful.

Donna and nephew Matt, the biggest berries seemed to be on the bottom on the bushes.

If you aren’t into the picking they have some all packaged and ready to go.

The finished product, this pie was SOOOOOO good. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to eat canned pie filling again.

All the words and pictures are my own.
