Tabulous Closet Inspiration

Everyone always says bathrooms and closets are the things you need to make amazing to increase the value of your home and while I agree with that I also think closets are important, I mean do you really ever have enough storage? We live in a home built in 1962 and there is definitely NOT enough storage, we are even seriously considering turning one of the bedrooms next to the master bedroom into a walk-in closet for the both of us to share.

While I was contemplating this idea I was looking at closets and realized this needed to be a post, what do you definitely need and what is just extra? I think I would like hanging racks for clothes on most of the walls and shelves for our shoes, there’s a window in that room looking into the backyard, we could put shelves on each side of the window for us each to have a shoe area. I would like to have an island of some type in the center with lots of drawer storage and nice flat area on top to fold clothes and to put suitcases when packing for a trip. Here’s a look at some of the ideas I really like for closets, Enjoy!!!

This is a great look at what can be created even in a narrow space.

I would like to have some shelving for sweaters and such.

I always think retail stores a great place to get inspiration, especially clothing stores for closets.

This was a bedroom where a closet and dressing area was created in one end of a bedroom.

I also definitely like the idea of colored or painted woodwork in the closet, I would like stained wood floors in the bedroom that flow into the closet. I also want to do as many double hanging areas as possible, you know, pants below and shirts above.

This is what I’m picturing in the center of the closet, I’m thinking we could use two unfinished dressers and put them back to back, paint them to match the rest of the woodwork and put a nice piece of marble or granite on top to provide the surface. Don’t forget a place to sit and put on shoes and cool lighting over the island, this is the perfect place to splurge and “act out” a little.

I’m really liking these Plumber Pipe Shelves for the shelves I was talking about for shoes. It’s very masculine and out of the ordinary.

This is a great idea if you’re a scarf nut like I am. This was done with inexpensive tension rods, but you could definitely do the same thing with pipe and pipe mounts.

I also like the idea of draping the doorway from the bedroom into the closet, adds a little extra drama and texture to the room.

Here’s a different look at a great closet island and a beautiful light fixture.
