Last week over a couple of evenings I had a chance to watch two documentaries I’ve been wanting to see, Dior and I and Iris. Dior and I is a look at the House of Dior during the time that Belgian designer Raf Simons was brought on board as lead designer in 2012, following Simons and showing what it took to put on his first fashion show with only 8 weeks to do it. The film Iris follows “geriatric starlet” Iris Apfel on her quest for more accessories, her day to day life in NYC and we witness the love story between her and her husband of 68 years Carl Apfel.
Dior premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2014 and had a wide release in America in 2015.
This is a scene from the film Dior and I where Raf Simons is studying a dress silhouette and deciding yes or no. Simons took inspiration for his first Dior collection from dress shapes Dior created in the 1950’s.
Decisions are made, scissors are used and in the end, all is beautiful.
An empty house in Paris was used for the Dior fashion show and in each room the walls were covered with a different color flower, here you can see the multi-colored room and at the back you can see the blue room peeking through.
A model in a Raf Simons creation for Dior leaves the yellow room and enters the white room where the walls were covered in white orchids.
Iris premiered at the New York Film Festival in the Fall of 2014 and had a wide American release in 2015.

Carl and Iris Apfel, Carl Apfel died in August of 2015, just three days before his 101st birthday.
