Spring and Summer are always great times to try new recipes that involve fruit, so much fresh produce is available at the grocery store and soon it will be time for the Farmer’s Markets to open up. One thing that’s fun to experiment with is cocktails using the fresh ingredients that are available, so I thought this month we would also look at different recipes for cocktails using strawberries. I tried to find recipes that weren’t a big mess to make or that required lots of equipment, I love a good strawberry margarita but I don’t always want to get out the blender or margarita machine. Here’s a peek at some recipes to try and remember this weekend is Mother’s Day so if you’re hosting lunch or brunch that’s the perfect time to serve some new, light and refreshing beverages. Strawberry Basil Moscow Mule
I love a good Moscow Mule, one of the best ones I’ve had was in LA at the Beverly Hills Hotel one evening before dinner and since ginger is one of my favorite flavors I always say yes to Mules. I really want to try this recipe since it adds Strawberries and Basil to the mix. Head over to MarlaMeridith for the recipes and instructions.
Strawberry Gin Smash
In my college days, Gin and Tonics were my go to cocktails but over the last twenty-some years I’ve been a much more a Vodka/Soda and Wine kind of guy but this recipe for a Strawberry Gin Smash may make me rethink my position. The recipe is very simple with just some muddling involved of your sugar, lime, and strawberries. The Kitchn gives you the recipe for both single drinks and to make them by the pitcher.
Peach Strawberry Sangria
Sangrias are always an easy cocktail you can make ahead of time because the longer it sits the better it gets. I know it’s not quite peach season yet but I’d be willing to bet you could make this with frozen peaches for this time of year then try it again this summer when peaches are at their peak. With only five ingredients this Sangria from Just A Little Bite will be quick and easy.
Strawberry Thyme Vodka Sparkler
I love that the trend over the last couple of years has been to include fresh herbs in cocktails, most of the time it’s Basil but in this one it’s Thyme. This recipe from Sumptuous Living is simple and would be very refreshing as the days get longer and warmer.
Strawberry Basil Infused Vodka
I have to be honest and tell you I’ve never done the infused alcohol thing but I think I’m ready to try it, especially with this recipe for Strawberry Basil Vodka from Foodie with Family. The great thing with infused vodkas is you can add a mixer like soda and a garnish of lime or some other fruit and you have a quick and easy cocktail. There’s also all the great alcohol infused fruit someone needs to eat.
