A couple of years ago I told you about the Getty Villa as the museum was preparing to turn 40 years old, today I want to let you know that it’s one of my favorite museums to visit. Located in the Pacific Palisades region of Los Angeles high above the Pacific Ocean the Getty Villa is the ultimate in seeing the history of the ancient world here in North America. The Villa houses more than 44,000 artifacts and pieces of ancient art, it’s literally an extension of the Getty Museum which is just up the hill from the Villa museum. Strolling through the museum and grounds is a wonderful way to spend a day, with the beautiful pool in the courtyard area, the statues, artifacts, and artwork displayed throughout the marble villa. Every detail of the Getty Villa has been researched and carried out just as it would have been thousands of years ago in ancient Rome or Athens. Now I need to plan a trip back to LA and visit the Getty Museum up the hill, be sure and check out this Tabulous museum if you have a chance. Enjoy!!!
Maybe my favorite place at the Getty Villa, this reflecting pool and it’s surrounding area is just beautiful.
A peek between columns into the courtyard garden containing statues, benches, and entrances into the Villa.
The Villa is filled with beautiful samples of artwork from the ancient world…
as well as amazing containers and sarcophaguses. The details are amazing.
The view of the Pacific Ocean is amazing from the Villa grounds.
The amount of sculptures is amazing in the museum.
This is the reflecting pond at the bottom of a staircase outside the restaurant and gift shop.
If you are planning a trip to Los Angeles this summer or in the future be sure and put the Getty Museum and the Getty Villa on your list to visit, it makes a great day trip out of LA and is very peaceful.
