During the month of May,  we are looking at Strawberries, not only as food but also as inspiration in design and today we are looking at the little red fruit and how it’s inspired some amazing looking jewelry. Not only are the berries themselves inspiring but so are the leaves of the Strawberry plant, in the 19th century Strawberry leaves inspired design for diamond tiaras worn by royalty throughout Europe. Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, designed a Strawberry leaf tiara as part of a large gift of jewelry for Princess Alice, he and Victoria’s third child, as she was preparing to marry a German prince. Unfortunately, Prince Albert died before he was able to present his daughter with her gifts, but Queen Victoria gave it to her making sure she knew it was designed by her father. Strawberries have also inspired some gorgeous brooches over the centuries as well as earrings and bracelets. Join me for a look at just a few pieces I found, I would love to see some modern interpretations of Strawberries in jewelry, Enjoy!!! (above image via)
