We go to quite a few movies and I don’t always talk about them on the blog but today I feel compelled to talk about the new version of Ghostbusters that released this past weekend. I’m a child of the 80’s and I was in the theater every time a new movie came out, good or bad my best friend and I were in those seats at the Showest in Weatherford, Oklahoma, so I was intrigued about the new all-female version of Ghostbusters since I was there for the original in 1984. I have to tell you that this movie is great, there’s been a lot of hype about the film, especially a lot of hateful comments because it was (A) being remade and (B) because it was being done with an all female cast.

The movie stars four of the 21st century’s great female comedians, Melissa McCarthy, Kristin Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones as well as a very funny Chris Hemsworth. The movie is fun to watch with of course all the latest in special effects, the movie is fast paced and the jokes and one-liners are flying left and right. Melissa McCarthy is her usual funny self as one of the leaders of the group as is Kristin Wiig with her self-deprecating humor, as she starts out as an academic that gets sucked into helping rid NYC of spooks. I love the humor of Kate McKinnon, she’s over the top while at the same time some of her humor is very subtle and you have to pay attention for it. Leslie Jones is Saturday Night Live actor who is hilarious, she comes on board as a novice ghost hunter but she is an expert on NYC.

It was fun watching for the cameos of Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts, and Ernie Hudson, who all starred in the original film. the movie is directed by Paul Feig who has collaborated with McCarthy on other films like Spy, Heat and directed she and Wiig in Bridesmaids. If you have a chance I would definitely see this movie in the theater, ignore the bad reviews by pompous critics and the comments of the misogynists who don’t like change. Oh and before I forget, stay all the way through the end of the credits, the credits themselves are fun to watch, photos of Chris Hemsworth, but there’s a teaser at the very, very end. Enjoy!!!!
