Fabulous Fireplaces

It’s cold here in Oklahoma, as it is in much of the country. We are having an ice storm here that’s supposed to begin today and carry through tomorrow with maybe as much as 2 inches of ice building up in some places, wish us luck. It’s on days like this that I wish we had a fireplace to light and sit in front of. When I was a little boy we had a fireplace in the first house my parents bought and I remember the smell of the fire and sound of wood cracking and popping. I’m hoping we can have a fireplace if we are able to build on to our house like we’ve talked about, I don’t want anything huge by any means, just a nice fireplace with a pretty surround and mantel that we can light in the winter and enjoy. I thought today was the perfect opportunity to share some glimpses of fireplaces I like, they range from refined ones with white marble surrounds to big ones covered in rocks and stones. Do you have a fireplace, I’m always amazed at how many people have them and never use them. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and wherever you are, stay warm and safe and hopefully curled up by the fire, Enjoy!!! (above image via)

This is what I would like to have, a floor level fireplace with a simple wood or stone surround and mantel. (via)

I do like the surrounds done in interesting stone or tile, it adds texture and lots of visual interest. On this one, I would have a thicker, chunkier mantel. (via)

Of course, you can do a more contemporary fireplace. Fireplaces look great in any decorating style. (via)

I love these huge, grand fireplaces but I’m pretty sure I’ll never have a house to support one this size. (via)

Couldn’t you just sit here all day and read a book and watch the snow fall outside, beautiful. (via)

This is another modern fireplace design that I like a lot, I love the straight lines and the combination of stone and concrete in the differing shades of gray. (via)

More and more we are seeing combinations of contemporary tile with a traditional wood mantel and surround. TV’s mounted above fireplaces are not one of my favorite things. (via)

I really like this stone and wood combo, that chaise is calling for a nap. (via)

Words are my own.
