I knew when I started seeing news stories about this latest balloon sculpture by artist Jeff Koons I needed to share the story. I love everything about this, from the massiveness of the sculpture and especially all the wonderful colors of red, blue, gold, and silver. Koons, of course, is known for his large art installations like this one as well as his balloon sculptures created in resin that you can have in your home. This installation is entitled “Seated Ballerina” and was unveiled in Rockefeller Plaza in NYC last Friday, May 12th. The “statue” is a real balloon and will be in place until June 2nd. It’s based on a porcelain ballerina statue and is made of nylon, Koons says the sculpture “conveys optimism and a sense of potential for the future.” Koons also says the sculpture is meant to bring awareness to May being National Missing Children’s Month, if you’re in NYC go check it out and if you can’t get there here are some pics of this amazing inflatable art. Enjoy!!! (above image via)
