The World of Encaustic Tile

April 30, 2018

I am fascinated with all the beautiful Encaustic Tiles or concrete tiles that are available today, there are so many beautiful patterns and color combinations available. I looked up the definition of Encaustic Tile and I found this: Encaustic Tiles are ceramic tiles in which the pattern or figure on the surface is not a product of the glaze but of different colors of clay. They are usually of two colors but a tile may be composed of as many as six. So the tiles are created by hand using different colors of clay instead of getting the colors from the traditional use of paint and the firing process.

Of course, some of the most popular ones are all the beautiful gray and white combinations of tile and I’m very partial to the beautiful black and white Encaustics. The colorful Encaustics bring a lot of bang to a room, home or restaurant as you’ll see in some of the photos I’m going to share with you today. In the days to come, we will take a look at specific brands of Encaustic Tiles and the people and companies that make them. I definitely want to incorporate some of these beauties into my home, how about you? Enjoy!!! (above via)

I really like how the gray and white Tile is carried into the walk-in shower from the bathroom floor. (via)

This Gray and White pattern is beautiful and would be amazing in a bathroom or an all-white kitchen. (via)

Black and White is always a good and easy choice and even better when done in a fun pattern. (via)

Isn’t this amazing? The color and patterned tiles looked so great on the floor the homeowner carried it up onto the backsplash of their kitchen. (via)

These Encaustic Tiles have a star pattern in black and white. There’s something very traditional in the star, kind of a quilt look while being contemporary at the same time. (via)

Here you can get an idea of some of the different patterns and colors available in the world of Encaustic Tiles. (via)

Here you can how some beautiful Encaustic Tiles were used to bring color and pattern to a room with lots of white and light colors going on. (via)

This bathroom is only 6 foot by 6 foot but is huge on appeal with the black and white theme. They were able to use the less expensive white subway tile on the wall and beautiful Black and White Encaustic Tiles on the floor and keep their claw-footed tub. (via)

I hope you enjoyed this look at Encaustic Tiles, check back in the days to come as we look at certain brands of tile and how they’ve been used. Have a great day and Enjoy!!!

Words are my own.
