Going Gray In The Kitchen

If you are a wine drinker than you no doubt know about Robert Mondavi wines and the beautiful estate and vineyard where the grapes are grown for the wine. A few years ago a 100-year-old house on the estate of the Charles Krug Winery, which is owned by the Mondavi family, was used as the Traditional Home Napa Valley Show House. During the transformation, the kitchen of the home was redone and it was decided the house would be used as an entertaining space so the kitchen needed to be updated and made into a showplace. The color gray was chosen as the main color to be used in the kitchen of the house and in a big way, all the cabinetry is gray. There wasn’t time to rip out the existing cabinets and build and install new ones so the existing cabinets were used. Some upper cabinets in the kitchen were removed to make the kitchen feel larger and some were redone to make it possible to house appliances like the range and new refrigerator. Join me today for a tour of this beautiful kitchen done in gray tones and I’ll go into more detail with the photos. Enjoy!!!

Benjamin Moore’s “Chelsea Gray” was used throughout the room on both cabinets and walls. In addition to redoing the existing kitchen cabinets, the floors were also stripped and refinished. Woodwork throughout the room has been painted a crisp white color and ties back to white in the tile and roman shades over the sink.

Black iron Industrial Barstools are used around the island to provide a second eating area.

Stainless steel has been used throughout the kitchen including the faucets. A large cutting board was cut to fit over half of the under counter sink.

Calacatta White Marble tiles are combined with mirror tiles to create a beautiful Chevron pattern over the cooktop.

Wine cooling equipment, as well as a cold wine server, were installed in the kitchen.

There are a lot of light catching elements in the kitchen like the crystal light fixture over the island as well as mercury glass, stainless steel, mirror tiles and silver cabinet hardware.

All the gray in the room provides a neutral background, here it is perked up with gray and brightly colored linens and gold chargers from World Market.

More wine chills in a cooler installed in a small section of wall with all the accessories needed to serve wine.

Words are my own.
