Christmas Changes

December 4, 2018

Every few years it’s time to change things up and update your Christmas decor. As you know I have several clients that I decorate around their front doors and front porches for the holidays in addition to decorating inside their homes, I’ve shared all of them at one time or another here on the blog as well as on Facebook and Instagram. This year we decided to make some changes to the largest one I do and I wanted to share it with you today. Originally this door, below, was Red, White, and Green but a couple of years ago we went to all Red, seen above, for a more elegant look and this year we added decorations to the large planters on each side of the front door. The addition of these ornaments added to the decoration and for me, it gave it a more complete feeling and also tied it to the interior of the house where we do all red on the main staircase and fireplace, all of which you see when you first walk in the front door. I wanted to share this update with you today so you can see how a little change and a few dollars can change things up and make them look fresh and new. Enjoy!!!

To add the ornaments to the planters I bought these wooden floral picks that have a thin piece of copper wire attached to the top. I fed the wire through the hanger on the top of the ornament a couple of times then wound it around the top of the stick. This way I can insert the floral pick into the dirt of the planter, hide the pick but still have the ornament visible.

Before I had always attached the Mesh Ribbon to the back of and the bottom of the planter…

but this time I wound the of the ribbon around the base of the evergreen bushes that are planted in the planters. I think it gives it a much more finished look. Remember, I use grapevine for the base of all this as it goes up over the door and down both sides ending in the planters.

Here you can see the floral pick inserted into the dirt and mulch holding an ornament.

Adding a few more…

and just keeping adding more ornaments of varying sizes to fill in the planter and spaces between the ornaments.

A look up at the ornaments as I was adding them to the grapevine and Mesh Ribbon.

Now it looks complete with ornaments all around the door and big bunches of them in the planters, Nutcrackers complete the look.

The big red lights on the bushes just add to the look. We have the same type of bulb in clear strung through the garland.

Here’s a look at the all red staircase that greets you as you enter the house.

One last look at our festive red door and planters.

I hope you enjoyed this look at an update to decor I’ve been doing for nine years now. Check back tomorrow as we take a look at another update, have a great day and Enjoy!!!

Words and images are my own.
