Introducing The Lampster!!!

August 13, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I love lamps and lighting, if I had to do it all over again I might study lighting design but for now, I’m in love with this new little guy, The Lampster. The Lampster is the result of a campaign on Kickstarter and the progress of the beginning up to know is tracked on The Lampster website and is kind of fascinating. There are four different finish types available called Army (looks a little beat-up), Artsy (think Jackson Pollock), Zombie (speaks for itself), and just color. There are nine color choices and then some of those are available in the first three categories. The Lampster is a lamp and so much more, you can sync it to the beat of your favorite music, you can control it using your phone or tablet, as well as having a touch feature to turn it on and off just by touching the lamp. I think this is awesome and will definitely look into getting one. The creators hail it as the most powerful desk lamp in the world and we all need that in our lives. Today I have some photos of The Lampster to share for you to get an idea of style and colors available, check out thelampster.com website when you have a chance as well as their Facebook page and as always, Enjoy!!!

Mixing Traditional & Rock-N-Roll In Texas

August 8, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I love mixing it up as far as interior design goes, mixing styles, types of furniture, you know contemporary and antiques. Today we are looking at a home that was recently featured in Traditional Home magazine, it’s a very traditional home in style and decor but what stands out is the amazing art collection, much of it having to do with rock and roll and the people who perform it. The home is in Houston and is owned by a 58-year-old banker who loves music, he bought the 5,800 square foot home after about a third of it was completed so he was able to upgrade and make changes to the interiors before the home was too far along. Today the house is home to beautiful furniture, accessories, and artwork that reflect the taste of its owner. I love how the artwork is what brings color to much of the house and the furniture and upholstery are done in softer colors and provide a neutral background. Join me for a tour of this beautiful home and remember you’re never too old to rock-n-roll. Enjoy!!!

The Friends Apartment in 2018

July 30, 2018

By Tab Byrum

One of the constants that remained throughout the tenure of the TV show “Friends” was the huge rent-controlled apartment where Monica and Rachel lived, their apartment was the hangout and go to place for the six friends and all of their dates over the 10 seasons the show was on TV. The apartment was very eclectic in decoration with lots of color going on, remember the purple front door with the small frame around the peephole in the door, and the purple wall around the door. Of course, the purple gave way to a bright “tealish” color in the kitchen and then green back by the bathroom. There was a mix of fabrics on all the furniture as well as the window treatments around the HUGE multipaned window that looked out on ugly naked guy across the way. Vogue recently gave us a look at what that same apartment might look like today in 2018 in three versions. The first look is if Monica and Chandler had stayed in the apartment instead of moving to Connecticut, the second version is if Monica and Emma had moved in after Monica and Chandler had moved out. The third version is if Joey moved back to NYC from LA and was able to take over the awesome rent controlled space. Today we are going to take a look at different versions of the apartment worked up by the design firm Modsy, so join me for a tour and Enjoy!!!

Greens Only

July 25, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I don’t know if I would call today’s post a trend or not but it’s a look I like and enjoy more and more. I LOVE fresh flowers but sometimes I like an arrangement made of just greens and foliage, I’ve been seeing this look used a lot in weddings. Just having a vase or container of greens is much more streamlined and depending on the greens it can be very architectural. There are all kinds of beautiful leaves to choose from, most of them all tropical. You can use Hosta Leave, Monstera Leaves, Banana Plant Leaves, Aspidistra Leaves, and Pittosporum. Today we are going to take a look at different arrangements and I’ll try to focus on certain greenery in future posts. Just remember, plants and flowers bring life and color to a room but you don’t always have to break the bank or go overboard. Enjoy!!! (above image via)

The trend for downsizing and living smaller doesn’t seem to be going anywhere but at least there are people and companies out there trying to make the trend more palatable and beautiful, case in point, today’s tiny home. July 20, 2018

By Tab Byrum

The Queen of all media continues to grab up palatial properties around America, especially on the west coast. Word is Oprah Winfrey recently purchased 43 acres on Orcas Island, the largest island in the San Juan Islands off the coast of Washington State. With the purchase of land, she also acquired three thousand feet of unspoiled beach that faces west as well as a compound that features a 4 bedroom home that measures more than 7,000 square feet. The compound also has a guest house, measuring almost 3,000 square feet, that houses four bedrooms and 3 bathrooms where either guests or staff can reside during visits to the island. Join me today for a tour of the island and the beautiful home of Oprah that she paid almost $8.3 million dollars for. Enjoy!!!

Garden Stools

July 18, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I’m on the hunt for the perfect Garden Stool to use in our Master Bedroom as a small side table. Garden Stools are exactly what they sound like, short, usually round stools but they are wide enough to be used as a table. We have a blue and white garden stool that we’ve had for years that I use in the living room and I would like to have one in the bedroom to hold a couple of books as well as a fan that we use this time of year when the temps at night don’t cool off very much. Garden Stools come in all sorts of shapes, usually, they are round but they also come in a square shape. Many times you will find the decoration and design of Garden Stools have an Asian influence which of course is where they got their beginnings. Today I’m going to share with you some ways Garden Stools are used as furniture in the home as well as look at some choices available from retailers. Enjoy!!!

Beautiful Before & After In Brooklyn

July 16, 2018

By Tab Byrum

Would you dare paint your already beautiful wood floors white? Hard choice I know but that’s exactly what homeowner Joe Mazias of Brooklyn did upon the advice of his interior designer Dan Mazzarini of BHDM, all of this to tie together the black and white color scheme they agreed upon. All flat surfaces in the apartment were painted white with the exception of the bedroom which was painted gray, and much of the woodwork was painted a glossy black including window casements, and doors. This apartment is a perfect example of what something as simple as paint can do for a home, it can completely transform it and make it very sophisticated. A few weeks ago we talked here on the blog about Encaustic Tiles and this homeowner chose a beautiful pattern of Encaustic Tiles in black and white for the home’s bathroom that blend beautifully with the white used throughout the rest of the room, all of this is offset by the wonderful rustic vanity. Join me today for a look at several of the rooms in this beautiful home and check out the inspiring color scheme and use of other colors to accessorize and furnish this home. Enjoy!!!

Out Of Print ~ Inspiration From Literature

July 13, 2018

By Tab Byrum

As you may know, I LOVE books and I was really excited to find out recently about the Out Of Print company and website. Out Of Print is dedicated to celebrating literacy and stories while promoting literacy in underserved communities, each purchase made on Out Of Print helps support literacy programs and book donations to those in need.  Out Of Print has an amazing choice of things you can buy, all of them inspired by great works of literature and their cover art. I particularly love all the t-shirts available with some of my favorite books on them, both children’s books and novels. There’s everything from British works like Jane Eyre and Jane Austen to American novels 1984 and To Kill A Mockingbird. There are also great kids books like Are You, My Mamma, and Curious George and everything is available in both men’s and women’s styles of t-shirts. If you’re not into t-shirts they also have tote bags, socks, boxers, jewelry, mugs, and much, much more. I will definitely be placing an order in the near future to celebrate literature and help those have better access to literature who don’t know. I hope you enjoy this look at t-shirts and pay Out Of Print a visit soon. Enjoy!!!
