Hey There Tall & Purple ~ Liatris

March 5, 2019

By Tab Byrum

Last week I shared photos of floral arrangements I did in a client friend’s home for a lady’s party she was hosting and some of you messaged me and asked me what the tall purple flowers are that I used in the silver pitchers in her Living Room. Those are Liatris or you may also know them as Blazing Stars. I like to use Liatris if I need some height in an arrangement but don’t have enough room to use something like Gladiolus or Birds of Paradise. Liatris comes to us from the Sunflower family and is native to North America. I’ve gathered some images for you of Liatris in nature and used in some other arrangements other than the ones I recently did, I hope this gives you some inspiration and as always, Enjoy!!!

Forward, March
And Welcome Spring,
When Bunnies Bounce
And Birds All Sing.

When March Winds Blow
The Winter Away,
They Get The World
Ready For April & May.
                                                     -Anonymous

Can you believe we’ve entered into the third month of the year, I can’t!! It’s 23 degrees here today and we had a little ice and snow over the weekend but as fast as time is going it will soon be hot, school will be out and I’ll be posting about the 4th of July. Today we are going to start something new, looking at what special events and days are coming up in the month of March. There are hundreds of events on the calendar every year and each one is given a day of the year to be remembered or celebrated, some of them very popular like St. Patrick’s Day and some of them more obscure like National Cheese Doodle Day which is tomorrow. So, here we go with a peek at March and just a few of the fun things you can enjoy and celebrate during the month. Enjoy!!! (above via)

Royal Check From MacKenzie Childs

March 1, 2019

By Tab Byrum

As you know by now I really like MacKenzie-Childs and their beautiful products. I’ve always been a fan of their original Black and White pattern, Courtly Check and then when they came out with the lighter version of it in Parchment Check, but now I’m thrilled with Royal Check which is a Blue and White version of the original. This will work with so many things, especially if you’re a collector of Blue and White dishes. I can also see using the Blue and White Royal Check all through the Spring and Summer, think how fun it will be mixed with Red for the summer holidays and it will also look awesome with Orange in the Fall. My dream would be to have Black and White Courtly Check for the Fall and Winter months and Blue and White Royal Check for the Spring and Summer months…I may have to work on that. Join me today for a look at the beautiful new pattern from MC and revel in all its blueness. Enjoy!!!

VOW Party Florals

February 26, 2019

By Tab Byrum

A client friend of mine is part of a group called VOW, which stands for Visionary Oklahoma Women. Every month or so the group gets together to discuss projects and sometimes have a program presented by someone, last year I presented a program on florals at this same party. The February get together is always right around Valentine’s Day, this year it was a week later due to scheduling for a large group and it happened this past Sunday afternoon. My friend Teresa was the hostess for the party in her beautiful home in the country outside of OKC and Edmond, for the last few years I’ve been Teresa’s go-to guy for flowers for her parties, get-togethers and dinner parties. I stuck with Valentine colors for the flowers and did lots of Red, Pink, and threw in some Purple. I want to share the photos of the flowers with you and show you how some relatively simple arrangements go a long way in decorating for a party. Enjoy!!!

Gift Box Blue

February 19, 2019

By Tab Byrum

Yesterday we discussed and looked back on the life of Louis Comfort Tiffany, the man who helped make Tiffany a household name while keeping its status as a luxury brand. Almost as famous as the Tiffany name is the special shade of blue that is used for all the Tiffany packaging, from shopping bags to ring boxes, you know if you see this color it has to be something special. “Tiffany Blue” is very popular in the world today for decorating and it’s a great color that goes with most everything. The Blue/Green mixture of color looks beautiful with white, black, pink, yellow, red, beige, it’s really hard to find something it won’t go with. Last year my friend Shana and I were working on a project and we were looking for the perfect Tiffany Blue and I discovered “Little Blue Box” from Sherwin Williams and now we’ve used it on lots of stuff and are never disappointed. I’ll show you some examples in today’s post. Today we are going to take a quick look at “Tiffany Blue” and how it has made it’s way far from the world of packaging and into our hearts and homes. Enjoy!!! (above via)

Remembering Mr. Tiffany

February 18, 2019

By Tab Byrum

Today would be the 171st birthday of Louis Comfort Tiffany, a man who expanded the jewelry company founded by his father into the decorative arts and made it into a global empire. During this week we are going to look at a few things from the world of Tiffany including one of his beautiful homes and the color that’s been made famous and known as Tiffany Blue. Today we are remembering LCT by looking again at a post I did four years ago, celebrating Mr. Tiffany and his work when I wrote about him as Tabulous Tastemaker. Join me today for a look back at Louis Comfort Tiffany, a man with an amazing imagination and creative abilities who has left behind a wonderful design legacy. Enjoy!!!

Maddy and Ryan’s Wedding, December 28, 2018

February 13, 2019

By Tab Byrum

With all the hubbub of the holidays and end of year stuff, I haven’t had a chance to post about the wedding I helped with at the end of Christmas week. My friend Shana from Ink Stained Fingers asked me to help her with the wedding of a friend’s daughter, Shanna is a calligrapher and creates a lot of items for weddings, from the invitations to napkins, seating charts, table numbers and so on. So, with her experience Shana had taken on the role of wedding planner, she knows I have experience with doing weddings, especially the flowers, so I did what I could to help create a beautiful night for this young couple. We used muted colors in the table settings with white tablecloths and gray and the bride’s grandfather made and painted wooden boxes that we used on half the tables to hold floral centerpieces I did. We had a gorgeous rustic arch on the stage of the venue that we draped half of it in sheer fabric and the other side was draped in a garland I made by hand and topped with a big arrangement of greenery and flowers I wired together. I’ll go into more detail with the photos and you’ll be glad to know Shana and I are hoping to do more weddings and parties together as we grow our business, more on that later. For now, Enjoy the wedding!!! (above via)

Champagne Cocktails For Valentine’s Day

February 12, 2019

By Tab Byrum

Champagne is one of my favorite wines and ways to celebrate and as we approach Valentine’s Day I thought it would be fun to look at a few versions of Champagne Cocktails. Champagne cocktails are when you combine Champagne with other wines or liqueurs to create something completely new. The first Champagne Cocktail I ever had was served at a friend’s house many years ago and was Champagne, Angostura Bitters on a sugar cube, drop the sugar cube into a Champagne glass and add the Champagne. Very good. Today there are lots of versions of a Champagne cocktail, some involve Brandy or other flavored liqueurs. Whatever recipe you prefer, have one or two this Valentine’s Day and Enjoy!!!
