Beautiful Before & After In Brooklyn

July 16, 2018

By Tab Byrum

Would you dare paint your already beautiful wood floors white? Hard choice I know but that’s exactly what homeowner Joe Mazias of Brooklyn did upon the advice of his interior designer Dan Mazzarini of BHDM, all of this to tie together the black and white color scheme they agreed upon. All flat surfaces in the apartment were painted white with the exception of the bedroom which was painted gray, and much of the woodwork was painted a glossy black including window casements, and doors. This apartment is a perfect example of what something as simple as paint can do for a home, it can completely transform it and make it very sophisticated. A few weeks ago we talked here on the blog about Encaustic Tiles and this homeowner chose a beautiful pattern of Encaustic Tiles in black and white for the home’s bathroom that blend beautifully with the white used throughout the rest of the room, all of this is offset by the wonderful rustic vanity. Join me today for a look at several of the rooms in this beautiful home and check out the inspiring color scheme and use of other colors to accessorize and furnish this home. Enjoy!!!

July 11, 2018

By Tab Byrum

Last week I shared images and the story of the remodeled NYC apartment belonging to Carole Radziwill, a former ABC News producer and now a member of the Real Housewives of NYC. While researching the post I found out that she used Interior Designer John Bossard for the remodel and redecoration of her home and I started looking more into him and his work. John Bossard is the founder of Bossard Design and has been doing design work for 20 years. John Bossard was raised in the South and got his start in the design world doing floral design, working for several different notable florists around the world including Kenneth Turner of London. He eventually moved on to Interior Design and opened Bossard Design in 2005 after apprenticing for a decade for different interior designers. Bossard is widely acknowledged for his work around the world and often appears in publications like Architectural Digest, Veranda, and House Beautiful. Today we are looking at some of his work from several different homes he’s worked on in places like Aspen, Charlotte, NYC, and Palm Beach. I hope you enjoy his work as much as I do and find some inspiration, Enjoy!!!

Adding Color Thru Art & Fabrics

July 9, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I LOVE COLOR!!!! I have always loved color and will always use color but with that being said I also have to say that as I grow older I enjoy a neutral background as far as my home is concerned. I like having lighter and neutral colored walls, a sort of blank canvas that I can then decorate and “paint” the look I want using artwork and fabrics on the upholstered furniture and window treatments. Today we are looking at a home in Atlanta that when it was first built the homeowners did a much more neutral palette in the colors they used, they refer to the original look as Tuscan or Mediterranean. Today they have changed out some of the floorings in the house and brought in a lot more color using their furniture and artwork. The homeowner says after several years she was ready for a change, wanted to brighten things up and have a more”transitional feel” to the home. Join me today for a tour of this gorgeous home and see how you can bring in pattern and color without going overboard. Enjoy!!!

Going Gray In The Kitchen

July 2, 2018

By Tab Byrum

If you are a wine drinker than you no doubt know about Robert Mondavi wines and the beautiful estate and vineyard where the grapes are grown for the wine. A few years ago a 100-year-old house on the estate of the Charles Krug Winery, which is owned by the Mondavi family, was used as the Traditional Home Napa Valley Show House. During the transformation, the kitchen of the home was redone and it was decided the house would be used as an entertaining space so the kitchen needed to be updated and made into a showplace. The color gray was chosen as the main color to be used in the kitchen of the house and in a big way, all the cabinetry is gray. There wasn’t time to rip out the existing cabinets and build and install new ones so the existing cabinets were used. Some upper cabinets in the kitchen were removed to make the kitchen feel larger and some were redone to make it possible to house appliances like the range and new refrigerator. Join me today for a tour of this beautiful kitchen done in gray tones and I’ll go into more detail with the photos. Enjoy!!!

Gray & White Checkered Floors

June 13, 2018

By Tab Byrum

Whether they’re painted on or whether they’re marble, I really, really, really like a gray and white checkered floor. I’ve talked before on here about loving black and white floors and I still do but I’m thinking this may be the way I want to go SOMEWHERE in our home. I love the way the gray and white look together, I think they are very elegant and chic looking as compared to the strongness in a black and white floor. The gray and white lends itself to any color combination as far as what you want to do with paint, fabric, art, and upholstery in your home. I’ve gathered some images of gray and white floors and I’ve included not just tile floors but also some that have been painted onto wood floors because I think that’s a charming way to do a wood floor, especially an old one. I hope you like what I’ve collected and I look forward to hearing from you. Enjoy!!! (image via)

Bethenny Frankel’s New SoHo Loft

June 1, 2018

By Tab Byrum

If you’re a watcher of the Real Housewives of NYC then you are familiar with Bethenny Frankel, she was on the show in the beginning then left the show and is now back on the show. Bethenny has made a nice fortune for herself dealing in New York real estate both in NYC and in the Hamptons as well as creating her Skinny Girl Cocktail empire which she sold for over $8 million a couple of years ago. Earlier this year Bethenny unveiled her new apartment in the SoHo area of NYC and as Architectural Digest says, “it’s sleek and chic”. The apartment is a two bedroom apartment, just right for Frankel and her eight-year-old daughter, the home has several features I like that I’ll talk about below with the photos of the apartment. The apartment is very neutral as far as color with a lot of black, white and gray in the main living areas and Frankel’s bedroom with some color showing up in her daughter’s bedroom. So, grab a cup of coffee and join me for a home tour of an NYC Housewife and Enjoy!!!

Royal Wedding~Wedding Reception #2, Frogmore House

May 17, 2018

By Tab Byrum

Today we are looking at Frogmore House which will be the sight of a laid-back wedding reception for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The party is being given by Prince Charles for his son and new daughter-in-law and is being kept pretty small with around 200 to 250 people being invited. The party is mainly for the wedding party and close friends and relatives of the newlyweds, rumor is a disco will be set up and there will be ice cream food trucks on hand as well as smoked bacon and sausage sandwiches as requested by Prince Harry. The venue of Frogmore House is special because this is a house on the estate of Windsor Castle that is no longer lived in by any of the royal family, Frogmore is also home to Queen Victoria’s mausoleum and the royal burial ground for members of the family. Frogmore has been owned by the royals since the 16th century and was used by Queen Charlotte, wife of George III, as a country house. Several of Queen Victoria’s children lived in the house at Frogmore as well as her mother the Duchess of Kent. During the 1980’s the house underwent a major renovation and today the house is used by the royals for special events such as dinners and parties like this weekend’s wedding party. One more thing of interest about Frogmore, when the Royal Yacht Britannia was decommissioned in 1997 several pieces of furniture from the yacht was moved to Frogmore and are still there today. Here are some images of Frogmore, a royal venue this weekend. Enjoy!!! (above via)
