By Tab Byrum

This past weekend you may have seen if we’re friends on Facebook that I shared some news and photos from ShanTabulous STudios and if you did YAY!!! ShanTabulous is a new venture I’ve taken on with a friend of mine, Shana Myers, who is an Artist and Calligrapher here in Oklahoma City and has Ink Stained Fingers. Shana has a thriving business doing Calligraphy for parties and weddings and we’ve known each other for close to 20 years. I approached Shana a while back about combining our talents, hers in art and calligraphy and mine in florals and holiday work, and create something we could sell and would enjoy doing. We’re starting with the signs I’m sharing with you today but hope to have some wreaths for both indoor and outdoor as well as more signs for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. We are going for an elegant look on some of our stuff as well as a Vintage or Retro look. We will be offering personalization on our boards and wreaths so if you want something specific with a greeting and your last name let us know. Everything is hand-painted front and back and the images are also hand-painted onto the boards. Shana does all our Calligraphy by hand, NO STENCILS OR PEEL AND STICK letters here. We now have an Etsy store up that you can view here and we’ll be adding a few more Halloween images later this week and get the other holiday merchandise up ASAP. Join me now for a look at these first five signs and let us know what you think, we hope you’re as excited about our products as we are. Enjoy!!!

Decorative Hardware From Martin Pierce

October 2, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I always say you have to pay attention to the small special things in a room as much as you do the big things like wall color, finishes, and flooring. Things that can make a room extra special are what I think of as jewelry for a room, lighting and hardware and today we are going to look at a new company I recently found out about, Martin Pierce Custom Decorative Hardware.

Martin Pierce is an artist and sculptor who began creating beautiful hardware after he was unable to find anything unique, Martin also designs lighting and some furniture, taking his inspiration from nature. Martin is originally from England and moved to Los Angeles in 1980, he started with designing cabinet pulls and eventually began designing door handles, bathroom accessories and recently lighting. Martin uses the lost wax method of casting his pieces and all of them are original and copyrighted. Martin takes a lot of inspiration from insects but also has collections that focus on plants and trees like his Hedgerow and Willow collections as well as collections like the Lizard collection and Netuske collection which takes its inspiration from 17th-century  Japanese buttons and are miniatures of bumble bees, rabbits, lizards, and frogs. Today we are going to look at a sampling of Pierce’s work and we’ll come back and focus more in-depth on certain collections. For now, join me for a look at the work of Martin Pierce and Enjoy!!!

Pumpkin Cookie Jar

Sorry, for not posting in several days but you know how it is, had a lot going on here and unfortunately, I didn’t plan well very far ahead. But, I’m back and have lots of fun and wonderful things planned to share with you from the world of design.

Today we are starting with a look at a wonderful artist I’ve made friends with, Sharon Bloom. Sharon has Sharon Bloom Designs in Winters, California and she simply adores Halloween. Sharon says she has loved the spooky holiday as long as she can remember and she not only creates wonderful Halloween creations but she also collects Halloween folk art which she displays in her home year round. Sharon’s artistic background is in painting and today she expresses that through her amazing ceramics and Halloween paintings. Sharon creates one of a kind holiday figures that are collected by people around the world and she shows her wares every year at the prestigious annual “All Hallows Art Festival” in Petaluma, California coming up on September 29th. If you can’t make it to Petaluma you can visit Sharon’s shop on Etsy here and as a special Halloween treat Sharon Bloom Designs is having a special offering of her Halloween ornaments starting tonight on her Instagram page at #shopsharonbloomdesigns

Keds + Rifle Paper Co. For Fall

September 6, 2018

By Tab Byrum

Earlier this year I shared with you the collaboration between the iconic American shoe company, Keds and the Rifle Paper Co. Well, apparently, that collection and collaboration went so well they decided to do it again and even turned up the volume on some of their designs. The shoes come in all sizes for women and kids, they’re bright, colorful, fun and make you smile to look at them. The shoes all feature gorgeous designs previously done on paper at Rifle Paper Co. with some of them being printed on and some of them being done in beautiful embroidery. They will all look great with jeans, blue and white, or khakis or skirts as we go into the cooler months of the year. Check out the collection here at Keds.com or at Rifle Paper Co.com and I have a look at some of the collection here today. Enjoy!!!

It’s hard to believe but the first Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, came out twenty-one years ago and this fall we have a new Harry Potter movie with the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, Part 2. In celebration of all that we are taking a look today at the fun and beautiful new Harry Potter Collection from Pottery Barn available at Pottery Barn Teen. While this may be on the website aimed at teenagers I know a lot of adults who will be gaga over some of this stuff, especially things like the pieces of furniture and the lamps and lighting, all very high end and chic. Whatever your age there’s something here for you if you are a fan of the Boy Wizard and the world he lives in. If you have an HP fan on your Christmas list there’s bound to be something here that will make extra happy this year. Happy Labor Day 2018

September 3, 2018

By Tab Byrum

A hundred times every day I remind myself that my
inner and outer life depend on the labors of other men,
living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order
to give in the same measure as
I have received and
am still receiving.
~Albert Einstein

HAVE A HAPPY LABOR DAY!!!

Agatha Christie on Amazon Prime ~ “Ordeal By Innocence”

August 22, 2018

By Tab Byrum

We LOVE to watch TV at our house, at night after everything is done for the day and we’ve had supper and are settled down we love nothing more than watching something recorded on the DVR or finding something new on one of the streaming services. We really love British television and as you may know the British have a special affinity and knack for mysteries. Recently it was announced that the production arm of the Agatha Christie estate is teaming up with Mammoth Screen to produce seven Agatha Christie novels to be shown on television. Here in America Amazon has signed on to be the distributor and the first of the seven is “Ordeal By Innocence” and it was recently released. “OBI” is the story of the wealthy Argyll family in England, unable to have children of their own Leo and Rachel Argyll adopt five children. After the children are grown a member of the family is murdered and one of the kids is accused of the crime, they are found guilty and sent to prison. The story takes a turn when a man shows up who says he was with the accused killer the night of the murder and there is no way they could have committed the murder. There are a lot of twists and turns in the story and of course, eventually, the mystery is solved but not before taking you on a wonderful journey. From a design standpoint, this 3-hour mini-series was wonderful. It’s set in the late 1950’s so the clothes and cars are wonderful and the decoration of the mansion is gorgeous. I love all the colors used throughout the huge house, especially the blue used in the entry and all the way up the three-story entry hall. If you have Amazon streaming definitely check out “Ordeal By Innocence”, just sit back relax and enjoy it, it’s definitely worth it. Enjoy!!!  (above via)

Introducing The Lampster!!!

August 13, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I love lamps and lighting, if I had to do it all over again I might study lighting design but for now, I’m in love with this new little guy, The Lampster. The Lampster is the result of a campaign on Kickstarter and the progress of the beginning up to know is tracked on The Lampster website and is kind of fascinating. There are four different finish types available called Army (looks a little beat-up), Artsy (think Jackson Pollock), Zombie (speaks for itself), and just color. There are nine color choices and then some of those are available in the first three categories. The Lampster is a lamp and so much more, you can sync it to the beat of your favorite music, you can control it using your phone or tablet, as well as having a touch feature to turn it on and off just by touching the lamp. I think this is awesome and will definitely look into getting one. The creators hail it as the most powerful desk lamp in the world and we all need that in our lives. Today I have some photos of The Lampster to share for you to get an idea of style and colors available, check out thelampster.com website when you have a chance as well as their Facebook page and as always, Enjoy!!!
