Greens Only

July 25, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I don’t know if I would call today’s post a trend or not but it’s a look I like and enjoy more and more. I LOVE fresh flowers but sometimes I like an arrangement made of just greens and foliage, I’ve been seeing this look used a lot in weddings. Just having a vase or container of greens is much more streamlined and depending on the greens it can be very architectural. There are all kinds of beautiful leaves to choose from, most of them all tropical. You can use Hosta Leave, Monstera Leaves, Banana Plant Leaves, Aspidistra Leaves, and Pittosporum. Today we are going to take a look at different arrangements and I’ll try to focus on certain greenery in future posts. Just remember, plants and flowers bring life and color to a room but you don’t always have to break the bank or go overboard. Enjoy!!! (above image via)

By Tab Byrum

If you decorate for the 4th of July I definitely think you can leave it out for the entire Summer months, most of the holidays we have in the Summer have a patriotic theme to them. As I’ve told you before a Red, White and Blue color scheme is one of my favorite color combinations and I like to use it in everyday home decor, just not in a literal patriotic way. Today I want to share some of the fun things Pottery Barn has to offer this Summer for all your decorating and entertaining needs during the 4th of July holidays and could easily take you through the Summer and into Labor Day. By Tab Byrum

Hello everyone and Happy Monday!!! I hope you had a great weekend and were able to celebrate Father’s Day if it pertains to you or if your Dad is still here to celebrate. I just got home from a fun trip to New York City and I wanted to share with you what we did, where we ate and shopped while we were there. I went to NYC with my friend Donna and her daughter Bella who recently turned 16, for her birthday Bella asked for a trip to NYC with her mom and me and we surprised her and made it happened. NYC in the Spring is always fun and last week the weather was hard to beat. We did A LOT of shopping since Bella had asked for money from her family for her birthday and she loaded up on fun clothes and accessories to wear this Summer and when school starts back in a couple of months. Join me for a quick tour of the Big Apple and I’ll do my best to share all of our fun. Enjoy!!!

Memorial Day 2018 ~ Remember The Fallen

May 28, 2018

By Tab Byrum

In Flanders fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

~ John McCrae (1872-1918)

Royal Wedding Wrap Up

May 21, 2018

By Tab Byrum

OK, surely you didn’t think we could skip out on looking at all the amazing design that went into making Saturday’s Royal Wedding happen…did you? Today we are going to look at all the things we talked about leading to the Royal Wedding, from the flowers and the cake to the dress and jewelry. I personally thought it was a beautiful wedding, it was much smaller and more intimate than William and Kate’s wedding 7 years ago but that was because this wasn’t an official state occasion, thus the absence of Presidents and Kings and Queens from other countries. I’ll talk a little more about all the ingredients that made this wedding a feast for the eyes. Enjoy!!! (above via)

Royal Wedding Venue ~ St. George’s Chapel

April 20, 2018

By Tab Byrum

Everyone enjoyed the post I did last week on the florist who has been chosen to do the flowers for the upcoming wedding between Britains’s Prince Harry and Meghan Markle so I thought we would continue on to look at different aspects of the upcoming nuptials from a design perspective and for fun on Fridays. The wedding ceremony itself will be held in St. George’s Chapel within the walls of Windsor Castle, the longest occupied castle in Europe. Windsor, of course, is one of the homes of Britain’s monarch Queen Elizabeth who mainly uses it on the weekends. Windsor is in the Birkhall region of England and is a little over 20 miles outside of London. Michael and I visited the Castle on our first trip to England in February of 2014 and I have to say it’s still one of my favorite places we have visited. The chapel itself was established in the 1300’s by Edward III and has been the scene of many weddings and christenings and is the burial place for many former English Kings and Queens. The Queen’s parents, George VI & Queen Elizabeth, are buried in the chapel as well as her grandparents, great grandparents, and King Henry VIII. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will walk down the main aisle of the chapel on Saturday, May 19th to tie the royal knot, join me today for a look at the chapel as well as some recent weddings that took place there. Have a wonderful weekend and Enjoy!!! (image via)

Royal Wedding Florist ~ Phillipa Craddock

April 10, 2018

By Tab Byrum

Last week it was announced that Phillipa Craddock will be doing the flowers for the upcoming nuptials between Britain’s Prince Harry and American, Meghan Merkle. Craddock is a well known high-end florist in London, with shops in Selfridge’s Department Store and a stand-alone shop. Craddock is a favorite among the fashion industry crowd in London and says she is thrilled to be working with the couple on their big day. Recently Craddock told House & Garden Magazine, “Working with [the couple] has been an absolute pleasure. The process has been highly collaborative, free-flowing, creative, and fun. The final designs will represent them as a couple, which I always aim to achieve in my work, with local sourcing, seasonality, and sustainability being at the forefront.” Meghan Merkle’s favorite flowers are Peonies, they will be mixed with White Garden Roses, Foxgloves, and Seasonal Beech. All the flowers will be coming from the Crown Estate, Windsor Great Park and Royal Parks, following the wedding the flowers will be donated to charitable organizations. Today I’m sharing photos from Ms. Craddock’s website of some of the amazing arrangements and events she and her staff have worked on, I can’t wait to see what she creates on May 19th at Windsor Castle’s St. George’s Chapel. Enjoy!!! (above image via)
