Happy 4th of July, 2017

July 4, 2017

Freedom has its life in the hearts,
the actions, the spirit of men and so
it must be daily earned and refreshed ~
else like a flower out from its life-giving
roots, it will wither and die.

Rowen & Wren Housewares

June 27, 2017

By Tab Byrum

So many good things that happen are merely by chance and that’s what happened recently when I stumbled onto the website for Rowen & Wren Housewares, to be honest, I can’t completely remember what led me to them but it was enough that I made note of their website on a running list I keep going on my desk of websites to revisit. You immediately know when you enter the world of Rowen & Wren that you are someplace fun, elegant, and different, one of the words they use in their self-description is eclectic and I couldn’t agree more. They have everything to choose from, whether you’re looking for a baby gift or champagne glasses that are the traditional saucer shape they have it at Rowen & Wren. I know I’ll be returning to see what else they have to choose from, especially when it gets closer to the holidays, in the meantime join me today for a quick look, an overview if you will, of all the beautiful offerings from Rowen & Wren of Bagshot, England. Enjoy!!!

Tabulous Father’s Day Gift Guide ~ Unsimply Stitched

June 12, 2017

By Tab Byrum

This coming Sunday is Father’s Day, a day we set aside to honor the man who helped bring us into the world or the men who took us in and raised us as well as the men who have been important to us and our families. As with all these holidays, we give gifts and that is not always an easy gesture to accomplish. This week I’m going to share with you some of the items I’ve found that I like and enjoy and that I think would be great gifts for Dad. We are going to start with socks, and before you roll your eyes about socks you have to check out the great designs and styles from Unsimply Stitched. I know these socks won’t be for everyone, but for those Dads who enjoy a little Sartorial panache, they are great. I ordered several pairs of their No Show socks that I like to wear with pants and jeans when you’re wanting to show skin instead of fabric and I also wear them with low top sneakers, like Converse, in the Summer. Here’s a peek at some of the fun and colorful offerings from Unsimply Stitched, Enjoy!!!

Memorial Day 2017

May 29, 2017

By Tab Byrum

Remember those who served before.
Remember those who are no more.
Remember those who serve today.
Remember them all on Memorial Day.
~Emily Toma

Today is the unofficial start to Summer, a time for breaking with the regular routine of school and activities, a time for relaxing when possible, enjoying life and the warmer longer days ahead. I want to remind everyone today though, of the true reason for Memorial Day, today is the day to remember those who gave all to keep our country a free nation so that ALL may enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We remember the men and women who fought in the Revolution that led to the beginnings of our great nation as well as those who have fought in wars on foreign shores to keep invaders from coming to America. We also remember those who have fought and died in wars that erupted from one country invading a country we call a friend and a war that has been going on for more than a fifteen years now after the attacks made upon us on September 11, 2001. We should all enjoy this day off but please stop for a moment and remember the real reason for today, Memorial Day.

Mother’s Day: Initial Necklace From gigglosophy

May 8, 2017

By Tab Byrum

The craze for initials always seems to come and go but never go completely away, I still think there’s something sharp about a nice monogram on shirts, cuffs, pillows and especially jewelry. Today we’re going to look at Initial Necklaces from Etsy shop, gigglosophy. The necklaces are all handmade and use uppercase letters that are either gold or silver plated. The letters are on a delicate gold or silver chains and most are made to hang sideways except for a few letters which are O, V, W, X, and Z. Each necklace comes in its own gift box, these are great for mom to wear with jeans and a t-shirt or a little black dress. Show mom some love and give her the first initial of her name or maybe the first initial of your families last name, check out the gigglosophy Etsy page here and see several selections on great gifts for mom this Mother’s Day on May 14th. Enjoy!!

Easter Tablescape Ideas

April 13, 2017

By Tab Byrum

This week kind of got away from me and I didn’t get the tablescape done that I had planned but I wanted to share table decorations that I came up with a couple of years ago for an Easter table. Everything I used in this tablescape was from the Dollar Store, Big Lots, and Dollar General except for the fresh flowers which you can easily pick up at the grocery store. This decoration was quick, simple, fun and full of bright colors. Remember, you can take any of the ideas from the table and use any one or more of them for your dining table at home, buffet table or even a kid’s table.

To see the whole blog post I wrote in 2015 click here, and as always, Enjoy!!!

Pier 1 Bunnies

April 12, 2017

By Tab Byrum

Easter is this Sunday and if you are needing some last minute ideas for decorations around the house or on your dining table then I’ve got some ideas for you. One great place to start is Pier 1, almost all major cities have a Pier 1 and of course, you can order online, although it may be a little late now. Pier 1 always has great choices in Holiday decorations for all seasons and today we are going to take a look at a few of the many and wonderful choices they have in Rabbits and Bunnies. Pier 1 has rabbits that are cute and homey and rabbits that look very high end as well as some that are very “artsy” looking. Any of these rabbits and bunnies can be combined with decorations you already own or you can pick up some of the other great decorating items Pier 1 has in stock. Join me for a trip down the bunny trail as we pay Peter Rabbit a visit, Enjoy!!!

Homemade Easter Wreath

April 5, 2017

By Tab Byrum

I’m trying to come up with more holiday oriented posts for the blog, especially ones that include homemade merchandise that isn’t too difficult or too expensive to make. Back during the Christmas holidays I shared a homemade wreath I made for our front door and at the time I made a note to myself that this could easily be done for other holidays. With that in mind, I loaded up on ornaments, especially shatterproof, at the after Christmas sales, all of today’s ornaments came from At Home. But, unfortunately, life and work got in the way and Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day passed by and I didn’t’ get the wreaths done that I wanted to so I promised myself that I would DEFINITELY do a wreath for Easter and I made it yesterday. This really is an easy recipe to make this wreath, you need a wreath form, a spring colored garland to wrap the form, ornaments to hot glue to the garland and anything else you want to add for the holiday you’re doing, I used Easter eggs and chicks. For a step by step how to, you can revisit my Christmas Wreath post here and I’ve included some pictures of the finished product. Let me know what you think, I’m seriously thinking about making these to sell, thoughts? Enjoy!!!

Jacques Torres Easter Chocolates

March 30, 2017

By Tab Byrum

I’m in the middle of planning a trip to New York City later next month and I was excited to recently learn about the Mr. Chocolate Museum that’s run by Master Pastry Chef and Chocolatier, Jacques Torres. So, of course, I got to digging around and found all the goodies he currently has up for grabs for Easter and knew I had to share them with you. These are some of the cutest chocolate creations I’ve seen, I think the thing that is so appealing to me about them is that they are very simple and not SO over the top. They are all shapes that many of us grew up associating with Easter and for some of us they are shapes we saw every day in our lives. I’ve already texted and emailed friends telling them they need to order certain things for their kids, the chocolate pig, and I want to share it all with you today. I’ll tell you all about Jacques Torres and the Chocolate Museum next month after we visit, in the meantime, Enjoy!!!
