Black & Yellow From MacKenzie-Childs

October 4, 2018

By Tab Byrum

Black and yellow has always been one of my favorite color combinations and I love the new Queen Bee collection from MacKenzie-Childs that features this color combo. The collection has beautiful furniture pieces done in a traditional style as far as shape but then they’ve used traditional fabrics with a twist. Stripes, damask, and chenilles combine to create gorgeous chairs, sofas, loveseats, and ottomans often with a bee or honeycomb pattern thrown in. There are also wonderful lamps with the celebrated MacKenzie-Childs Black and White check combined with a beautiful yellow. Join me for a quick look at the Queen Bee collection and be inspired to embrace yellow, black, and white. Enjoy!!!

Annie Lennox’s New CA Home

September 21, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I love real estate and one of my favorite singers is Annie Lennox, one of the founders of the 80’s duo extraordinaire the Eurythmics, so it only made sense to look at the recent real estate acquisition Annie made in California in the Nichols Canyon area of Los Angeles. The home was originally built in the 1960’s and sits at the top of a hill. The home shares a long uphill driveway with two other homes and it has recently been expanded. Today the home has 2,700 square feet with three bedrooms and three-and-a-half bathrooms. The home’s color scheme is almost all white and very contemporary with lots of straight sleek lines. The home has exposed posts and beams on the ceiling (which I LOVE) and floor to ceiling windows allow massive amounts of light into the residence. The home has a slim deck and an infinity edged swimming pool, the master bedroom has its own private deck and the view from throughout the home are stunning. Join me for a photo tour of the home and Enjoy!!!

Modern Farmhouse In Maine

September 10, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I love reinterpretations of an old theme, you know when something that’s been done for years and looked at with new eyes and made to recall it’s original inspiration but…different. Today we are looking at a timeless design of a home, the farmhouse, done with several modern twists to it. Many times the twist will come from the materials used which we’ll talk about more while looking at the photos or the colors may be totally different than what’s customarily used. Today’s featured home is in Kennebunk, Maine and belongs to a family of four. The family already owned the land that was home to a farmhouse and barn but wished the existing house had more modern features, so they decided to build and turned to Caleb Johnson Studios to help. Taking inspiration from the old house and barn they went with a design that looks like a barn on the outside but more farmhouse on the inside with contemporary touches. To add “old touches” to the new construction they incorporated wood and doors from a farmhouse tear down in neighboring Massachusets and the result is glorious. Join me for a tour today of a Maine Farmhouse and be inspired. Enjoy!!!

September 6, 2018

By Tab Byrum

Earlier this year I shared with you the collaboration between the iconic American shoe company, Keds and the Rifle Paper Co. Well, apparently, that collection and collaboration went so well they decided to do it again and even turned up the volume on some of their designs. The shoes come in all sizes for women and kids, they’re bright, colorful, fun and make you smile to look at them. The shoes all feature gorgeous designs previously done on paper at Rifle Paper Co. with some of them being printed on and some of them being done in beautiful embroidery. They will all look great with jeans, blue and white, or khakis or skirts as we go into the cooler months of the year. Check out the collection here at Keds.com or at Rifle Paper Co.com and I have a look at some of the collection here today. Enjoy!!!

Agatha Christie on Amazon Prime ~ “Ordeal By Innocence”

August 22, 2018

By Tab Byrum

We LOVE to watch TV at our house, at night after everything is done for the day and we’ve had supper and are settled down we love nothing more than watching something recorded on the DVR or finding something new on one of the streaming services. We really love British television and as you may know the British have a special affinity and knack for mysteries. Recently it was announced that the production arm of the Agatha Christie estate is teaming up with Mammoth Screen to produce seven Agatha Christie novels to be shown on television. Here in America Amazon has signed on to be the distributor and the first of the seven is “Ordeal By Innocence” and it was recently released. “OBI” is the story of the wealthy Argyll family in England, unable to have children of their own Leo and Rachel Argyll adopt five children. After the children are grown a member of the family is murdered and one of the kids is accused of the crime, they are found guilty and sent to prison. The story takes a turn when a man shows up who says he was with the accused killer the night of the murder and there is no way they could have committed the murder. There are a lot of twists and turns in the story and of course, eventually, the mystery is solved but not before taking you on a wonderful journey. From a design standpoint, this 3-hour mini-series was wonderful. It’s set in the late 1950’s so the clothes and cars are wonderful and the decoration of the mansion is gorgeous. I love all the colors used throughout the huge house, especially the blue used in the entry and all the way up the three-story entry hall. If you have Amazon streaming definitely check out “Ordeal By Innocence”, just sit back relax and enjoy it, it’s definitely worth it. Enjoy!!!  (above via)

Introducing The Lampster!!!

August 13, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I love lamps and lighting, if I had to do it all over again I might study lighting design but for now, I’m in love with this new little guy, The Lampster. The Lampster is the result of a campaign on Kickstarter and the progress of the beginning up to know is tracked on The Lampster website and is kind of fascinating. There are four different finish types available called Army (looks a little beat-up), Artsy (think Jackson Pollock), Zombie (speaks for itself), and just color. There are nine color choices and then some of those are available in the first three categories. The Lampster is a lamp and so much more, you can sync it to the beat of your favorite music, you can control it using your phone or tablet, as well as having a touch feature to turn it on and off just by touching the lamp. I think this is awesome and will definitely look into getting one. The creators hail it as the most powerful desk lamp in the world and we all need that in our lives. Today I have some photos of The Lampster to share for you to get an idea of style and colors available, check out thelampster.com website when you have a chance as well as their Facebook page and as always, Enjoy!!!

Mixing Traditional & Rock-N-Roll In Texas

August 8, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I love mixing it up as far as interior design goes, mixing styles, types of furniture, you know contemporary and antiques. Today we are looking at a home that was recently featured in Traditional Home magazine, it’s a very traditional home in style and decor but what stands out is the amazing art collection, much of it having to do with rock and roll and the people who perform it. The home is in Houston and is owned by a 58-year-old banker who loves music, he bought the 5,800 square foot home after about a third of it was completed so he was able to upgrade and make changes to the interiors before the home was too far along. Today the house is home to beautiful furniture, accessories, and artwork that reflect the taste of its owner. I love how the artwork is what brings color to much of the house and the furniture and upholstery are done in softer colors and provide a neutral background. Join me for a tour of this beautiful home and remember you’re never too old to rock-n-roll. Enjoy!!!

The Friends Apartment in 2018

July 30, 2018

By Tab Byrum

One of the constants that remained throughout the tenure of the TV show “Friends” was the huge rent-controlled apartment where Monica and Rachel lived, their apartment was the hangout and go to place for the six friends and all of their dates over the 10 seasons the show was on TV. The apartment was very eclectic in decoration with lots of color going on, remember the purple front door with the small frame around the peephole in the door, and the purple wall around the door. Of course, the purple gave way to a bright “tealish” color in the kitchen and then green back by the bathroom. There was a mix of fabrics on all the furniture as well as the window treatments around the HUGE multipaned window that looked out on ugly naked guy across the way. Vogue recently gave us a look at what that same apartment might look like today in 2018 in three versions. The first look is if Monica and Chandler had stayed in the apartment instead of moving to Connecticut, the second version is if Monica and Emma had moved in after Monica and Chandler had moved out. The third version is if Joey moved back to NYC from LA and was able to take over the awesome rent controlled space. Today we are going to take a look at different versions of the apartment worked up by the design firm Modsy, so join me for a tour and Enjoy!!!

Greens Only

July 25, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I don’t know if I would call today’s post a trend or not but it’s a look I like and enjoy more and more. I LOVE fresh flowers but sometimes I like an arrangement made of just greens and foliage, I’ve been seeing this look used a lot in weddings. Just having a vase or container of greens is much more streamlined and depending on the greens it can be very architectural. There are all kinds of beautiful leaves to choose from, most of them all tropical. You can use Hosta Leave, Monstera Leaves, Banana Plant Leaves, Aspidistra Leaves, and Pittosporum. Today we are going to take a look at different arrangements and I’ll try to focus on certain greenery in future posts. Just remember, plants and flowers bring life and color to a room but you don’t always have to break the bank or go overboard. Enjoy!!! (above image via)
