The last time I went to LA it was on a trip with friends and we stayed at the Hotel Bel Air, while we were there we had dinner one night and breakfast every morning at the Wolfgang Puck restaurant located in the hotel’s courtyard. I wanted Michael to see this beautiful place and experience the wonderful food and atmosphere so I made reservations for us at Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel Air for 6 o’clock. (above image via)

I love to bake, I don’t do a lot of it because of the obvious reason, we would just eat it. But truth be told Williams-Sonoma has beautiful bakeware that could definitely get me in the mood to bake up batches of fall goodies. They have amazing pans that when the cake or bread comes out is full of pumpkins and leaves. There are tools for cutting out amazing Fall inspired pie crusts for Autumn apple or pumpkin pies, and I love the pans that allow you to create small bite size goodies with an Autumn theme. Check out a few of the pieces of bakeware here and head over the Williams-Sonoma website to see all their amazing pans and utensils for baking Fall goodies. Enjoy!!!

Almost as important as the taste of a good cake is the presentation, and nothing can do that better than a beautiful cake stand. American Heirloom is a wife and husband run company that started out specializing in handmade cutting boards ( a whole different post) and has since evolved into among other things cake stands. Their cake stands are so elegantly simple and the fact that their bases are made of wood (maple and walnut) makes them that much more alluring. Right now the stands come in two different wood types and two different silhouettes, and two different sizes plus some of the stands can be personalized with names, initials, and or dates to make a wonderful gift for weddings or a special birthday for a baker. As you can also see from the above picture the stands can do double duty to help create a beautiful centerpiece for your table or would also be great cheese boards for pre-sliced cheese, or put the crackers on the cake stand and the cheese below it on another board. Join me today for a peek at Amy and Bill’s creations and to see more great products from American Heirloom check out their website. Enjoy!!!

I love being part of a surprise so I was more than happy to help my BFF Donna when it came time to surprise her oldest daughter, Bella, on her 14th birthday. Bella LOVES Harry Potter, Mike and I gave her the first book and movie several years ago for Christmas, teenagers are prone to be obsessed with something and for her and her friends it’s Harry. One nice thing about her HP love is that it’s led to a fascination with England and all things British, so her mom and dad decided to surprise her with a trip this Summer to London and Donna asked me to help with the big reveal. Last Friday the 20th was her birthday, and she had a party with her friends the weekend before, but she also had an end of school dance Friday evening so we decided to do a surprise reveal about the family’s upcoming Britsh adventure before the dance.

When I was trying to come up with fairly simple and good recipes using Strawberries my mom told me I had to try Strawberry Heaven, she said it has gotten to be a mainstay at church dinners in my hometown of Hydro, and who can say no to cake, strawberries, Cool Whip, and Cream Cheese. Strawberry Heaven uses Angel Food Cake which is one of my all-time favorites and you can buy Angel Food Cakes already made up in most grocery store bakeries so you don’t even have to turn on the oven to make this dish. Angel Food Cake is light and dreamy and one of my favorite combos is Angel Food cake with Strawberries, so this dish seemed like a natural and tasty way to end our look at the Strawberry and how it has influenced design and how we use it in our everyday lives. Enjoy!!!
1 Angel Food Cake torn into 1-inch pieces
1 16 oz. container Cool Whip
1 8 oz. Cream Cheese Softened
1 C. Sugar, divided
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1 Quart fresh strawberries, sliced ( you can use a 16 oz. bag frozen strawberries, thawed and chopped in place of fresh strawberries)
3 Tablespoons Cornstarch
1 3 oz. box Strawberry Flavored Jell-O
1 Tablespoon Lemon Juice
1 Cup Water
Combine 1/2 Cup of Sugar, 3 Tablespoons of Cornstarch, Jell-O, Lemon Juice and water in a pan. Cook this mixture over medium heat stirring constantly until it boils and thickens, remove from the heat, set aside and let cool. After this mixture has cooled stir in the sliced strawberries.
In another bowl toss together the Angel Food Cake pieces with two cups of Cool Whip, press this mixture into the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish and set aside.
Combine the softened Cream Cheese, 1/2 Cup of sugar and vanilla, mix this together using an electric mixer until smooth. Spread the remaining Cool Whip into the Cream Cheese mixture and spread this mixture over the cake layer in the pan.
Pour the cooled Strawberry mixture over the Cream Cheese layer and spread it out to cover the cake layer.
Cover and refrigerate at least 2 to 3 hours before serving.

One of my favorite things about this time of year and going into Summer are the fresh fruits and vegetables that become available and one of my favorite fruits is Strawberries. I love their sweetness and distinct flavor and how well they mix with lots of other foods and flavors, one of my favorite flavors of ice cream is strawberry and in the Summer, there’s nothing better than a big piece of strawberry pie with a big dollop of homemade whip cream. During the month of May, we are going to take a look at strawberries, not only from a fruit and food standpoint but also from a design standpoint. Strawberries have long been inspiration for designers in home accessories as well as jewelry, so I hope you’ll join me as we take a look at the little bright red fruit the whole month of May, I’ll share recipes for foods, desserts, cocktails and as well as look at home decor and personal accessories inspired by Strawberries. Here’s a look at our inspiration, check back every day and Enjoy!!! (above image via)

So many times we turn to France and the French people for inspiration when it comes to clothing, food, and interior design. The French are famous for creating a look by combining certain elements or taking certain items meant for one purpose and using them for another, French Pastry or Baker’s Tables are one of those items as well as French Pastry Stands.
French Pastry Tables are very sought after, they have a bit of an industrial look to them with their iron legs but, of course, being French they have just enough decoration on those legs to add special interest and they are usually topped with a beautiful piece of marble, marble, of course, stays cold and lets pastry chefs work with their pastry on the table and the dough doesn’t get too hot. I also have a soft spot for the Pastry Stands as well, usually done in brass and glass, the stands are very eye catching and a great way to perk up a kitchen or space in the kitchen. Today we’re going to take a look at both tables and stands and show you how they can be used. If you are lucky enough to find the real thing be prepared for some sticker shock, but there are many companies out there creating copies that are very attractive, Enjoy!!!
