November 30, 2016

Things are kind of wild and crazy on my end this week, so today’s post will be short and quick. A client of mine recently sold her home and the man who bought it called and asked me if I would put up his Christmas decorations as I had done for her the last several years. His interior designer is a friend that refers clients to me a lot for holiday decorating, she had been to the Dallas Market and ordered Christmas decorations for the house, they chose a color palette of cream, gold, bronze, and silver. Mom and I spent the whole day yesterday at the house putting up the new tree and decorating the mantel, I’m very proud of the mantel and want to share it with you today and I’ll go into more detail with the pictures, Enjoy!!!

Golden Vases

October 20, 2016

For many people, flowers are a major part of their tablescape when it comes to the seasons and holidays and one way to punch up your arrangements is to paint your vases different colors to go with your decor. Yesterday we spray painted real pumpkins gold and today we are going to add golden vases and flowers to our tablescape. I bought the vases we’re going to use today at the Dollar Tree, the dollar stores are great places to pick up items such as inexpensive vases, they have different sizes and shapes that add interest to your table along with varying heights. I placed the vases upside down in a cardboard box and painted them, the paint dries very quickly. I painted the vases early one morning then showered, flipped the them over and gave them a second coat from the top down, went on a bunch of errands and a couple of appointments with clients then came home and was able to use the vases for photos. I hope this gives you some inspiration, Enjoy!!!

Cotton Picking Beautiful

October 11, 2016

Yesterday we began our discussion on using neutral colors in decorating for Fall, one thing we touched on was using cotton and what a punch of color you can get from the white of the cotton itself and the brown from the stalk and stems of the cotton plants. Growing up in Western Oklahoma I was used to seeing a lot of cotton this time of year as farmers were getting ready to harvest both cotton and peanuts in the fall. Cotton is a really beautiful plant once it’s been allowed to dry and it can add a lot of height, color, and texture to your fall flower arrangements, it’s even beautiful on its own as we’ll see in photographs today. Cotton can be used in as little amounts as you want or a lot. Today you can find all types of wreaths for Fall made using cotton, I personally am drawn to the ones done on grapevine with cotton on one side and grapevine left to show on the other side as well as wreaths covered in cotton. Enough talk, let’s take a look at cotton and how you can bring this fall plant in and make beautiful use of it in your home. Enjoy!!! (above image via)

Fall Front Porch

October 4, 2016

If you’ve followed the blog for very long then you know I decorate several different people’s front doors for the different seasons and holidays, I recently met a new client and she wanted something done on her front porch but she didn’t want “the usual”. She and her husband have a beautiful new home and I love the entrance to it, it’s a beautiful large wooden door with lots of glass around it and beautifully stained wood and I didn’t want to cover all that up with grapevine and silk flowers. My client loves the look of birch branches and had recently ordered some on the internet and wanted me to incorporate them into the front porch decor, she also requested pumpkins and she had some fall garland she wanted me to use. I went to At Home and found the perfect container for the birch branches and also headed to a local pumpkin farm where I picked lots of great pumpkins and gourds. My client also wanted a new fall wreath for her front door, so I made that as well. Here are some photos, I’m really happy with how this turned out. Enjoy!!!

Today is day four of our ten days of fall decorations, this week we are taking a look at just a few of the many many choices you have on the Etsy website. Elegant Wreath keeps true to its name, the wreaths created by and sold on their site are beautiful. Elegant Wreath is using beautiful silk flowers, natural looking berries, and lovely ribbons to create wonderful wreaths to use on your front doors and in your homes. I also love the wheat shocks they have to decorate with, many of my family and friends in Western Oklahoma have been or are wheat farmers and I love using the golden grain in seasonal decorations. Here’s a peek at a few of the creations from Elegant Wreath, check out their Etsy website here to see all the choices. Enjoy!!!

Happy 2nd Anniversary

2ndanniversary_1

I can’t believe it but I started posting on the blog two years ago today, so two years and 662 posts later and I’m still enjoying it and finding new stuff everyday that I want to explore further and share with you. Today I thought we would take a look back at some of my favorite posts from the blog as well as some of the more popular ones. It’s interesting when you do something like a blog for others to read, you come up with an idea or a product for a post and get really excited about it and may only have 40 or 50 people come and read it and then sometimes you do a post at the last minute that you feel like is rushed and that’s one where a couple hundred people read it and share it. I hope you are enjoying reading the blog as much as I enjoy doing it and I ask that if you do enjoy it that you hit share on Facebook every day so your family and friends can see what we’re doing here, that’s one of the best ways to grow Tabulous Design. Join me now for a look back at the last two years, Enjoy!!!

Flowers Of The Month

I’ve always enjoyed doing the flower posts, especially in the beginning when I would focus on the flowers that are assigned to each month as the “birth flower”.  Two years ago I did Delphiniums or Larkspur, it’s crazy how much the way we do things changes in a couple of years, we’re always growing and changing.

Gorgeous Goldenrod

June 21, 2016

By Tab Byrum

Beautiful flowers abound this time of year, from early Spring through the Summer we can find tons of beautiful florals to work with at the florist shops and grocery stores. One of the flowers I like to use in the Summer months is Goldenrod or Solidago, it’s a flowering plant in the Aster family with a gorgeous yellow color. Goldenrod adds an additional bright color to a bright Summer arrangement or adds a big punch to a more subtle white or white and green bouquet. Goldenrod is available now and will be truly in season through July and August and there are some varieties of the flower that bloom into October. I’ve gathered some pics today of arrangements using Goldenrod, hopefully, this will give you some ideas for bringing bright yellow into your life. Enjoy!!! (above image via)

The Precious Peony

May 11, 2016

If you are at all into fresh flowers then this time of year should be one of your favorites since Peonies are in season. Everyone seems to love Peonies, whether it’s for their wonderful scent, their big, full blooms or the wonderful array of spring colors they come in. There’s nothing more beautiful in the Spring than a bunch of Peonies gathered into a bouquet, one of my favorite displays of Peonies involves blue and white porcelain, I always love how the colors of the Peonies plays off the blue and white. Last week for Mother’s Day I included Peonies in some of the arrangements that were ordered for clients and they were just the right amount of punch of color the bouquets needed. I’ve gathered some images today to share with you of Peonies to give you some ideas and inspiration on how to use this Springtime favorite, Enjoy!!! (above image via)

Spring Blooms ~ Spring Arrangements

April 15, 2016

By Tab Byrum

springflowers_4

We’ve made it to the end of another week, a week where we’ve looked at 4 different types of flowers readily available in the Spring, so I thought today we would take a look at some arrangements you can create using our flowers of the week. We’ve looked at Tulips, Muscari, Hyacinths, and Lilacs so I tried to find arrangements with some or all of those flowers in them. One thing you may notice in some of the pics I’m sharing today are Peonies, it’s still a little early for Peonies but when they do become available we’ll talk about them as well because they’re hands down everyone’s favorite Spring flower. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, enjoy these pictures and find some floral inspiration, Enjoy!!! (above via)

Christmas Flower Ideas

December 23, 2015

By Tab Byrum

We’ve almost made it, hopefully, the tree is up, most if not all of your shopping is done and you know what you are serving Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (or whenever you are getting together) but don’t forget your table. Today we’re going to take a quick look at what you can do with flowers for your holiday centerpiece. None of the flowers I’ve used are very expensive and a lot of them can be found in the flower section at the grocery store or just call a local florist and see what they have available to purchase. Here’s a peek, Enjoy!!!
