Party Flowers & Food

April 10, 2019

By Tab Byrum

Yesterday I shared with you about decorating a client’s home for Spring and Easter as we were getting ready for her to host a Birthday Party for a dear friend, today I want to share the flower arrangments I made for the party and the food I put together. My client had two requests on flowers for the Birthday Party, Pink, and Peonies. I used Pink Peonies, Pink Alstroemeria, Pink Carnations, White Stock, Green Hydrangeas, and Hot Pink Gladiolus. For food we decided it was best to have everything be food that we served at room temperature, we didn’t want to have to deal with ovens and timing to be hot when guests arrived. She also requested a couple of dips and left the rest up to the caterer and me. Long story short, I decided not to use a caterer and made or bought everything myself and put it together at her house on the afternoon of the party. I have lots of photos to share about the flowers and food; I’ll go into more detail with the pics. If you have any specific questions please let me know. Enjoy!!!

Hey There Tall & Purple ~ Liatris

March 5, 2019

By Tab Byrum

Last week I shared photos of floral arrangements I did in a client friend’s home for a lady’s party she was hosting and some of you messaged me and asked me what the tall purple flowers are that I used in the silver pitchers in her Living Room. Those are Liatris or you may also know them as Blazing Stars. I like to use Liatris if I need some height in an arrangement but don’t have enough room to use something like Gladiolus or Birds of Paradise. Liatris comes to us from the Sunflower family and is native to North America. I’ve gathered some images for you of Liatris in nature and used in some other arrangements other than the ones I recently did, I hope this gives you some inspiration and as always, Enjoy!!!

VOW Party Florals

February 26, 2019

By Tab Byrum

A client friend of mine is part of a group called VOW, which stands for Visionary Oklahoma Women. Every month or so the group gets together to discuss projects and sometimes have a program presented by someone, last year I presented a program on florals at this same party. The February get together is always right around Valentine’s Day, this year it was a week later due to scheduling for a large group and it happened this past Sunday afternoon. My friend Teresa was the hostess for the party in her beautiful home in the country outside of OKC and Edmond, for the last few years I’ve been Teresa’s go-to guy for flowers for her parties, get-togethers and dinner parties. I stuck with Valentine colors for the flowers and did lots of Red, Pink, and threw in some Purple. I want to share the photos of the flowers with you and show you how some relatively simple arrangements go a long way in decorating for a party. Enjoy!!!

Maddy and Ryan’s Wedding, December 28, 2018

February 13, 2019

By Tab Byrum

With all the hubbub of the holidays and end of year stuff, I haven’t had a chance to post about the wedding I helped with at the end of Christmas week. My friend Shana from Ink Stained Fingers asked me to help her with the wedding of a friend’s daughter, Shanna is a calligrapher and creates a lot of items for weddings, from the invitations to napkins, seating charts, table numbers and so on. So, with her experience Shana had taken on the role of wedding planner, she knows I have experience with doing weddings, especially the flowers, so I did what I could to help create a beautiful night for this young couple. We used muted colors in the table settings with white tablecloths and gray and the bride’s grandfather made and painted wooden boxes that we used on half the tables to hold floral centerpieces I did. We had a gorgeous rustic arch on the stage of the venue that we draped half of it in sheer fabric and the other side was draped in a garland I made by hand and topped with a big arrangement of greenery and flowers I wired together. I’ll go into more detail with the photos and you’ll be glad to know Shana and I are hoping to do more weddings and parties together as we grow our business, more on that later. For now, Enjoy the wedding!!! (above via)

Greens Only

July 25, 2018

By Tab Byrum

I don’t know if I would call today’s post a trend or not but it’s a look I like and enjoy more and more. I LOVE fresh flowers but sometimes I like an arrangement made of just greens and foliage, I’ve been seeing this look used a lot in weddings. Just having a vase or container of greens is much more streamlined and depending on the greens it can be very architectural. There are all kinds of beautiful leaves to choose from, most of them all tropical. You can use Hosta Leave, Monstera Leaves, Banana Plant Leaves, Aspidistra Leaves, and Pittosporum. Today we are going to take a look at different arrangements and I’ll try to focus on certain greenery in future posts. Just remember, plants and flowers bring life and color to a room but you don’t always have to break the bank or go overboard. Enjoy!!! (above image via)

Royal Wedding Wrap Up

May 21, 2018

By Tab Byrum

OK, surely you didn’t think we could skip out on looking at all the amazing design that went into making Saturday’s Royal Wedding happen…did you? Today we are going to look at all the things we talked about leading to the Royal Wedding, from the flowers and the cake to the dress and jewelry. I personally thought it was a beautiful wedding, it was much smaller and more intimate than William and Kate’s wedding 7 years ago but that was because this wasn’t an official state occasion, thus the absence of Presidents and Kings and Queens from other countries. I’ll talk a little more about all the ingredients that made this wedding a feast for the eyes. Enjoy!!! (above via)

Royal Wedding Florist ~ Phillipa Craddock

April 10, 2018

By Tab Byrum

Last week it was announced that Phillipa Craddock will be doing the flowers for the upcoming nuptials between Britain’s Prince Harry and American, Meghan Merkle. Craddock is a well known high-end florist in London, with shops in Selfridge’s Department Store and a stand-alone shop. Craddock is a favorite among the fashion industry crowd in London and says she is thrilled to be working with the couple on their big day. Recently Craddock told House & Garden Magazine, “Working with [the couple] has been an absolute pleasure. The process has been highly collaborative, free-flowing, creative, and fun. The final designs will represent them as a couple, which I always aim to achieve in my work, with local sourcing, seasonality, and sustainability being at the forefront.” Meghan Merkle’s favorite flowers are Peonies, they will be mixed with White Garden Roses, Foxgloves, and Seasonal Beech. All the flowers will be coming from the Crown Estate, Windsor Great Park and Royal Parks, following the wedding the flowers will be donated to charitable organizations. Today I’m sharing photos from Ms. Craddock’s website of some of the amazing arrangements and events she and her staff have worked on, I can’t wait to see what she creates on May 19th at Windsor Castle’s St. George’s Chapel. Enjoy!!! (above image via)

Tabulous Christmas Flashback

December 8, 2017

By Tab Byrum

It’s Friday and kind of crazy at our house today so I’m sharing today a house I first decorated last year and is still one of my faves. I called this one Natural and Elegant because there are so many natural elements to the holiday decorations, lots of pinecones, greenery and the Christmas tree is covered in nature. The elegance comes from the white and silver color scheme used throughout the house with pops of red and plaid. Those of you new to reading Tabulous Design, I hope you enjoy this look at a gorgeous home and for my friends who are here every day I hope you enjoy this walk down memory lane. Click here to see the full post on Natural and Elegant, Enjoy!!!

This arrangement of greenery and pinecones was one of my favorite things from this home last year. Click here to see the original post and more photos.

Have a great weekend and I’ll see you back here on Monday with looks and ideas for the Holiday Season. Enjoy!!!

Red, White & Retro Christmas Door

December 5, 2017

By Tab Byrum

I’ve shared the door to this home with you before on the blog but these are new decorations, I’m lucky that I get to change out this door three or four times a year and always with a new theme. I’ve been sticking with red and white in some fashion on this entry because right after Christmas is over I come and take the overtly Christmas items out of it and put in hearts and cupids and we leave that up until after Valentine’s Day, then I change it out to Spring. This time I used Red and White Mesh Ribbon as the base of my decoration, to that I added red berry garlands to the center and large red berry picks to the ends of the decoration. My favorite part of this year’s decoration is the large red and white striped poinsettias, to me, they are totally retro and remind of so many holiday decorations from the 1950’s and 60’s. On top, I added some fun white garlands that a big touch of whimsy and I worked in white lights that add great sparkle. I’ll go into more detail below in the photos, I hope you like this as much as I do. Enjoy!!!
