Spring Flowers ~ Gerbera Daisies

April 7, 2017

By Tab Byrum

Gerbera Daisies are one of those flowers that most everyone loves, they come in bright colors with either yellow, green or black center are work well with most other flowers. I love adding Gerberas to arrangements for a big punch of color and texture with their long beautiful petals. I did a more in-depth look at Gerberas in April 2015 which you can click and see here. Enjoy!!!

Canola In The Country

April 7, 2017

By Tab Byrum

I went to see mom and dad yesterday in my hometown of Hydro, mom texted me before I left and said to bring my camera because the Canola was bloomed out and beautiful. It was a beautiful Spring day for pictures, the Canola is in full bloom and the sky was a gorgeous blue with big fluffy clouds floating by. We drove down old Highway 66 a few miles east of Hydro to a huge field of Canola and I took today’s photos. I think it’s amazing that something we use so much of, Canola Oil, comes from these fields of beautiful yellow plants swaying in the Oklahoma breeze. I thought this was a great way to end our week here on the blog, I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy these images from my little corner of the world. Enjoy!!!

April 3, 2017

By Tab Byrum

Spring has sprung and we are headed towards Easter in less than two weeks, so I thought we would take a look back at posts I’ve done on different flowers that start being available now. Today we are going to start with Hydrangeas, one of my favorite flowers to use and one that I use many times as a base for arrangements. Click here to see an in-depth post I did back in 2015 on Hydrangeas.

Peony Inspiration

March 24, 2017

By Tab Byrum

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love Peonies, that beautiful Spring flower created by layer after layer of delicate petals that gives off a glorious scent and when opened fully looks like a magnificent ballgown. I was trying to decide on a post to do today to wind up the week and at the same time I’m working on a party that a client is throwing in their home this weekend, one of the requests of the hostess is that I use lots of peonies in the arrangements I’m doing around the house. Peonies have inspired people for centuries appearing in paintings and floral arrangements and of course today we can gather a more permanent version of peonies in wallpaper. Today I want to share some beautiful images of peonies with you as well as both some beautiful and whimsical images of peonies on wallpaper. I hope you get some inspiration and bring some peonies to your house this Spring, have a great weekend and Enjoy!!! (above image via)

Getting Galvanized

March 21, 2017

By Tab Byrum

One current trend in decorating both inside and outside the doors of our homes is using galvanized metal, which is metal that has been treated with a zinc coating to prevent it from rusting. During my life and growing up among farmers and ranchers, galvanized metal was mainly used for buckets and large horse tanks to hold water for livestock, and chicken feeders, there were many summers we got in the horse tank to cool off in lieu of a swimming pool. Today you can find galvanized metal being used for all manner of home decor and even lighting. Over the next few weeks, we are going to take a look at galvanized metal and just how it’s being used. Today we are going to get an overview of its use and see what great craftsmen and designers are coming up with for this metal that’s usually been deemed usable for “lowly” purposes. Enjoy!!! We’re Going To Disneyland!!!

March 16, 2017

By Tab Byrum

So you’re on vacation in California, you’ve done everything you have planned, it’s Friday morning and you’re sitting in a nice little café having breakfast trying to decide what you want to do, your partner looks at you and says “Let’s go to Disneyland” and of course I said OK!!!! I had never been to Disneyland, it’s always been on the list of things to do and Michael hadn’t been since 1975 so it might have changed a little (not much). I’ve been to Disney World and everything that Florida has to offer in the Orlando area so I was excited. Let me say that I’m so glad we went and in the same breath I don’t have to go back for a while, first off Disneyland is SO much smaller than I ever thought it would be, not that being a smaller amusement park is a bad thing but there were a whole lot of people jammed into a small space.

We had an awesome time, we arrived around 2:30 in the afternoon and decided to stay until the park closed at midnight (we made it to 10:30) and that was a great plan. Being there in early March was a good thing, I was told the crowds were much smaller than starting in later March with Spring Break through the rest of Spring and Summer. We rode all the big rides: Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, Runaway Mine Train, The Jungle Cruise and loved them all. One of the great things going on right now at Disneyland and Disney World is they are bringing Star Wars into the amusement parks, Space Mountain has already been changed over to a Star Wars themed ride and much of what is Tomorrow Land has been changed over to Star Wars. We ate supper, enjoyed the Main Street Electric Light Parade and saw about half of the fireworks show before they shut it down because of wind. It was a wonderful afternoon and evening in the Magic Kingdom and I know we’ll be back.

Roses, Roses Everywhere

February 13, 2017

By Tab Byrum

Tomorrow is Valentines Day and I’m busy today working on flowers and gifts clients have ordered for their wives and kids. One item that is always popular for Valentines is roses, the flower that seems to be associated with the holiday of love more than anything else, so I thought today we would take a look at roses used in decorating and home decor. I love roses, I love their scent, all the colors and their look made up of layer upon layer of petals. There are so many different kinds of roses, from the always beautiful garden rose, tea roses, wild roses and the manicured fresh cut rose we are all used to seeing in fresh bouquets. Join me today for a look at roses out of a vase of water and I’ll see you tomorrow for Valentines. Enjoy!!! (above image via)
