It’s Halloween!! It’s Halloween!!
The Moon Is Full And Bright
And We Shall See What Can’t
Be Seen On Any Other Night.
Skeletons And Ghosts And Ghouls,
Grinning Goblins Fighting Duels,
Werewolves Rising From Their Tombs,
Witches Riding On Their Magic Brooms.
In Masks And Gown We Haunt The Street,
And Knock On Doors For Trick Or Treat.
Tonight We Are The King And Queen
For Oh Tonight, It’s Halloween!

Haunted House ~ Winchester Mystery House

October 27, 2017

By Tab Byrum

I remember when I was a teenager reading a story about the reclusive woman, Sarah Winchester, heir to the massive Winchester Rifle fortune and the massive house she built in California outside of San Francisco. Sarah was married to William Winchester and his father Oliver had created the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, when her husband died in 1881 she inherited the company and $20 million dollars, equivalent to $500 million today. Following the death of her husband and their infant daughter Sarah moved to California from the East Coast in 1884, she bought an eight-room farmhouse in what is now San Jose, California. She immediately began renovating and building onto the house, construction on the house continued for the next 38 years, day and night 7 days a week. Today the house is known for the winding hallways and the staircases that go nowhere. Legend says Sarah Winchester was haunted by the ghosts of all the people that had been killed by Winchester guns and she built the house to keep the ghosts confused. Today you can tour the Winchester Mystery House and of course, there are special tours going on right now during Halloween. There’s also a movie coming out about Sarah and her monstrous mansion, starring Helen Mirren as Sarah Winchester, the film is called Winchester: The House That Ghosts Built,  the trailer was released yesterday and I’ve added it to the photos below. Enjoy!!! (above via)

Monster Art Prints From Monster No5 and Etsy

October 25, 2017

By Tab Byrum

It’s just not a Halloween for me unless I get to watch all of the classic monster movies from Universal, these are the original Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman just to name a few. So, I was excited when I was recently searching Etsy for fun Halloween finds and stumbled across Monster No5‘s site and the great artwork based on the Universal Monsters. The prints are available in this fun and retro color combination of yellow, turquoise, and gray or black and white and are done in an archival print fashion. The silhouettes are done on matte paper and are 8×10 in size. I hope you like these as much as I do, I definitely want to add a couple to our Halloween decor. Join me for a peek and as always, Enjoy!!!

Halloween Candy Bowls

October 23, 2017

By Tab Byrum

I’m on a spray paint kick here on Tabulous Design and I’ve come up with a couple of things I want to share with you that you can either do for your home or they would also make quick and easy gifts. I started this one with the small bowl vases I found at Dollar Tree for one dollar each, I chose the ones with the ruffled edge around the top. I thought that if these were painted black they would look like Halloween witch’s cauldrons, then fill them with a brightly colored treat like Candy Corn and you have instant Halloween candy dish. I’m using the glitter spray paint from Krylon because I thought it would be fun to have a little sparkle, this was my first time to use the product and I like it. I need some more practice because it clumped in a few spots but I actually like how it turned out, the clumps gave it a creepy and aged feel to it. I painted the second one of these ruffled jars glitter orange just to see how it would work. I’ve filled the black one with traditional Candy Corn and the orange one is filled with brown Candy Corn that is Chocolate Sea Salt. You could easily wrap these filled jars in cello wrap, tie them up with a fun Halloween ribbon and give them as neighbor or Teacher gifts. Let me know what you think and check back tomorrow when I’ll share some fun Halloween vases I made to decorate tables, Enjoy!!!

Decorating For A Fall Party

October 16, 2017

By Tab Byrum

Sorry for the radio silence last week here on the blog, I got busy helping a couple of clients with projects then I started not feeling well. I ended up with a case of Diverticulitis, which occasionally flairs up, but I’m better now, back on track and ready to work and blog.

One of my friend/clients is very active in the alumni group for the Chi Omega college sorority and often hosts their get-togethers in her home, she recently volunteered to host their Fall party and I want to share the decorating we did for the soirée. My client loves the holidays and now that she has grandchildren who recently moved back to Edmond, Oklahoma where she also lives she decided we would get out the Halloween decorations and do it up right. One thing about the Chi Omegas is that one of their symbols is the owl and my client has collected owls for years, so we incorporate those into her Fall and Halloween decorations. Join me today for a quick tour and a look at some fun and festive Fall decor, Enjoy!!!

Crate & Barrel Halloween

October 6, 2017

By Tab Byrum

Yesterday I shared some great vintage and vintage-inspired items with you from Etsy and today I want to share some mid-century inspired Halloween decor from Crate & Barrel. I always enjoy shopping at Crate & Barrel or visiting their website, so many of their items take inspiration from the 1950’s through the 1970’s in the shapes they use and the patterns used on fabrics and serving ware. I’m particularly excited about the Cauldron Bowls and the Ghost pattern used on several of the dining and serving pieces. Let’s take a look at all the fun and spooky items from Crate & Barrel and as always, Enjoy!!!
