Anderson Cooper’s Jungle Abode

July 12, 2016

By Tab Byrum

Don’t we all dream of having a place to escape to? A place that may even be hard to get to, secluded, secret and all our own, that’s exactly what Anderson Cooper has accomplished with the home he’s built in the Brazilian town of Trancoso. It takes Cooper and his partner, Benjamin Maisani, 14 hours to get to their vacation home from New York but by the looks of these pictures, it’s well worth the journey. Cooper says he first came to  Trancoso in 2013 with Benjamin and their friend Andy Cohen, Cooper says he was in love with the town and the area around it within a day of arriving and “fantasizing about buying a house there.” Cooper decided to go for his fantasy and gathered a team to help him buy property, design, build and decorate a home. Today the house sits on the edge of the beautiful rainforest, Cooper talks about sitting on the balcony reading and listening to monkeys in the distance. This house is beautiful, not overdone at all and incorporates wonderful antiques, but decoratively and structurally. One place Cooper and his designer had fun is with the light fixtures, you’ll notice lots of “different” lighting throughout the home. If you have a chance get the latest Architectural Digest magazine and check out the story of the house that Anderson built, for now here’s a peek inside, Enjoy!!!

Living Large, Being Small

May 24, 2016

By Tab Byrum

Downsizing or living smaller is definitely becoming a trend in this world, whether you’re in favor of it due to personal, economic or environmental reasons one thing for certain is you don’t have to give up style and comfort to do it. I was very intrigued recently when I read an article about The Cottage Co., a company dedicated to “building pocket neighborhood communities of compact homes” in the Pacific Northwest region of the U.S. As you can see from the pictures I’m sharing today the homes all have a definite cottage/farmhouse feel to them and neighborhoods are landscaped beautifully. The homes feature great front porches to sit on and enjoy sunny days, there are wonderful kitchens with tons of storage and dine-in space as well as beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms. Many of the homes feature skylights and vaulted ceilings to help your smaller surroundings not feel so small. I’m definitely interested in this concept, wouldn’t this be a great thing to do in areas of cities that have gotten run down? Hopefully, there will be more companies like The Cottage Co. popping up across the country, in the meantime enjoy these images from their website and click on their name above in orange to visit their website. Enjoy!!!

Sugarberry Cottage From Southern Living

May 5, 2016

By Tab Byrum

For many people,  I know the trend in homes seems to be either stay with what you have or if they are building it’s to build something smaller and more manageable, that’s why I was very intrigued by the Sugarberry Cottage house plan from Southern Living. At 1,679 square feet, three bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths, this house would be perfect for a family of two that has family who visits or a family with one or two children. As always I love the screened in porch and the large front porch across the front of the house, the Sugarberry would also make a great country getaway or lake house. Let’s check out this little gem, Enjoy!!!

Southern Living House Plan: Eastover Cottage

March 28, 2016

By Tab Byrum

I’m a sucker for anything with the word cottage in it, so when I saw the plans for Eastover Cottage on Southern Living Magazine’s home plan website I knew I had to check it out. I love everything the word cottage stands for, small, warm, cozy, beautiful, charming and Eastover certainly fills the bill, and with 5 porches, well it doesn’t get more charming than that. The home has a main floor with 1, 775 sq. feet and upstairs there are two bedrooms and bathrooms in 775 sq. feet, the home definitely has a southern feel to it with lots of Greek Revival elements. Here’s a more in detail look at Eastover Cottage and we’ll go over some of the other beautiful elements of this beautiful home, Enjoy!!!

Oscar Winning Homes ~ Barbra Streisand

February 23, 2016

By Tab Byrum

Barbra Streisand is one of my favorite entertainers and in 1968 she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for “Funny Girl”, but she wasn’t the only winner, that year there was a tie between Streisand and Katharine Hepburn for “Lion In Winter”. Today Streisand is considered one of the greatest entertainers of our time having starred in several award-winning and high grossing films as well as Broadway and she is the highest-selling female recording artist of all time. In addition to singing, dancing and acting Barbra Streisand is also known for her talent as an interior decorator and nowhere is that more on display than the home she built in Malibu several years ago.

Actually, the home is more of a compound and is made up of several different building, all with a relaxed country feel and each with a different name and serving a different purpose as well as her own private underground shopping mall. In 2010 Streisand put out a book titled “My Passion For Design” where she chronicled the building of her home(s) and the decoration, it’s full of beautiful photos and wonderful stories of her putting it all together, she has wonderful taste and much of the home is done in a very traditional style, Streisand is a great collector and that’s where the private mall comes in, the mall allows her to display items she’s collected over the years and she can visit them and see them whenever she wants. The subject of her mall has been made into a play called “Buyer and Seller”,  that I talked about last year when we saw it in Dallas. Join me for a tour through the Malibu home of Oscar winner Barbra Streisand and Enjoy!!!
