Margherita Missoni & PB Kids

January 20, 2017

By Tab Byrum

I was recently going through magazines and read an interview with Margherita Missoni, she is the granddaughter of Missoni founders Ottavio and Rosita Missoni. Today Margherita designs for the House of Missoni as well as raises her family while living and working outside of Milan, so today we are going to take a look at her current collection she did for Pottery Barn Kids. I love collaborations like this one between Missoni and Pottery Barn Kids when you take two established brands, clink them together and see what happens. The Margherita Missoni Collection is fun, bright, and colorful, it draws a great deal on her Italian heritage and it’s quite possible you’ll find something to use in an adult area of your home, especially if you’re looking for fun and color. I thought today we would take a look at some of the Missoni pieces that can help you spark up your child’s room or perhaps another room in your home. Enjoy!!!

Crushing On Orange

August 1, 2016

By Tab Byrum

Orange is one of my favorite colors and I often feel like it gets a bum rap.  Most people automatically associate the color orange with Autumn, pumpkins, and Halloween and in Oklahoma you can pretty much forget about half the population of the state having anything to do with the color orange.  Orange and black are the school colors for Oklahoma State University, crimson and cream are the colors for the University of Oklahoma, so it’s almost impossible to get any OU alums to even consider bringing orange into their homes (seriously?????).

Kid’s Room Refresh With At Home

July 11, 2016

By Tab Byrum

ATHomeSophias room - 17

My At Home design challenge for the month of July was to refresh a child’s bedroom and I knew the perfect candidate, my friend Sophia is having her 10th birthday today so her mom and I conspired to give her room a new look as part of her birthday present. Sophia and her sister had gone to the lake with friends for a few days last week so her mom and I decided to refresh her room while they were gone, so we headed to At Home to gather what we needed. One thing you need to know is that Sophia LOVES pigs so we decided to use that as our theme and as luck and good taste would have it At Home had the PERFECT piece of art to use as a centerpiece for the room, a brightly colored contemporary painting of an adorable pig. I played off the colors of the pig painting and incorporated brightly colored pillows, a bedside table, curtains and a new lamp. I guess I should stop talking about the refresh and just show it to you. Happy Birthday Sophia, THANKS At Home and as always Enjoy!!!

Bedrooms Fit For A Princess

May 2, 2016

Happy Monday and Happy 1st Birthday to Britain’s Princess Charlotte, I thought in recognition of the smallest royals big day we would take a look at bedrooms fit for any little Princess. When most people think of decorating a bedroom for a little lady their thoughts usually turn to the color pink, but that doesn’t need to be the only color associated with little girls, think how beautiful a soft blue or yellow room would be for a little girl or a lavender or soft purple room would be. Little girl rooms are a great excuse to bring on the drama which you can get from fun fabrics, bright prints, canopies, chandeliers, and artwork. There are lots of beds out there that can grow with your child from baby to teenager, you can also go ahead and get that desk they’ll need during their school years and use it as a changing table and storage and no child’s room is complete without some bookcases because no child’s room is complete without books. Join me for a look at wonderful rooms for girls and wishing our Princess inspiration a Happy Birthday, Enjoy!!! (above image via)

Friday Design Roundup~4/15/16

April 15, 2016

By Tab Byrum

There’re lots going on in the world of design, so much that we couldn’t fit it all in regular posts this week, take a look at these stories on color, art, designer toys, Paris, and chicken. Enjoy!!!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve surfed the internet looking at websites for art galleries and artists and you stumble onto an original piece by an artist but I never feel confident enough to buy something, that’s one reason I really enjoyed this article in Elle Decor Magazine on How To Buy Art Like A Pro. Auction and downsizing expert Barry Gordon gives 4 great tips for purchasing art.

I definitely believe color affects they way we feel, you know how you just feel better and more comfortable wearing some colors than others and the same can be said for being in rooms painted certain colors. British designer Vanessa Arbuthnott recently put together a great chart on colors, their meanings, the emotions they bring out and what rooms you should and shouldn’t paint in these colors. It’s featured in this ED article, very interesting.

We all grew up with Fisher Price toys, now the tot brand is going designer with word that Designer/Author Jonathan Adler has come on board as the Creative Director for Fisher Price. The first collection will debut this fall and include nursery decor, bedding, clothing, and toys. The deal between Adler and Mattel owned FP is for three years and will feature all the bright colors Adler is known for, here’s the announcement and story on the FP website.

Paris is redefining several of its major traffic intersections by having them redesigned to be more accommodating to pedestrians.  The move began in 2013 with the redesign of the Place de la République and has proved to be so popular that it’s being continued at seven sites, the redesigns will give pedestrians and cyclists at least 50% of the public spaces.

And finally today a few recipes to contemplate over the weekend from Food52.com. These all look amazing and I’m definitely going to try the recipe for chicken thighs with tomato, orzo, olives, and feta. Chicken never looked so good.  Have an awesome weekend.

Smoky And Sexy In The Mountains

April 7, 2016

What do you do when you want a retreat in the mountains but you don’t want everything to be log cabins and pinecones? You call in a professional, and that’s just what a California family did when they brought in designer Jamie Bush, Bush says when he asked his new clients what they were looking for in their new home they had two words, “Tom Ford“. The couple says they love the integrity of Tom Ford’s clothing creations along with the cut of the clothes and the quality of fabrics, the homeowners are both techies and have three children. I love this house, the colors that are used, the textiles and the juxtaposition of a sleek, contemporary look against the mountains of Tahoe. Jamie Bush did an amazing job, have a peek here and head over to Elle Decor for more information, Enjoy!!!

By Tab Byrum

We continue to look at accent walls today and the different ways you can treat that one or more than one wall in a room that will make them stand out and make us smile every time we enter a room and today we are going to look at what can be done with paint.

paintedwalls_3

Paint is one of the easiest, quickest and least expensive ways to change the way a room looks, every color you can think of is available and if you paint something a color and don’t like it you can always paint over it. Today there are so many ways to spice up our walls with paint along with a little help from painter’s tape you can achieve stripes, arrows, random shapes and the list goes on and on. The only thing that limits what you can accomplish with paint is your imagination, here’s a peek at some ideas of accent walls done up with paint, Enjoy!!!

May The Fourth Be With You

May 4, 2015

By Tab Byrum

starwars_21

A long time ago in a galaxy you are in right now a whole new level of geekdom was created, and it was called Star Wars (cue the music).  That’s right today is Star Wars Day, a day created to celebrate all things having to do with the mega block buster movie series that has spawned countless books, cartoons, six movies with a seventh coming out later this year and billions and billions of dollars worth of merchandise, some of which you can use to decorate your home.  I thought today we would embrace our inner geeks and take a look at how the world of design has embraced Star Wars, both the good and the bad, and if you haven’t figured it out yet, today is Star Wars day because the date (May the fourth) sounds like you’re saying “May the force” with a slight speech impediment, which is closer to something from Spaceballs than Star Wars, but anyway, Enjoy!!!
