Setting The Table With Plat du Jour

June 7, 2016

By Tab Byrum

I grew up using placemats on the kitchen and dining table and it’s something I still do today in my own home. Placemats are great because they keep the table from getting scratched, catch spills or drips off the plate and I like how they “define” your space at the table. I have seen paper placemats around for quite a while but decided to do a post on them after seeing some of the latest designs from Plat du Jour. Plat du Jour says they have “fresh, modern, and iconic designs for the table,” with the designs ranging from elegant mats done in antique china patterns to ones decorated with simple black silhouettes. Plat du Jour placemats are perfect for however many people you’re feeding or entertaining and when you’re done just gather them up and toss them in the recycling bin, Plat du Jour also has selections in matching cups, trays, place cards, and napkins but we’ll save those for another day. Check out some of the awesome designs here and visit the Plat du Jour website to see all their offerings, Enjoy!!!

Bella’s Birthday Surprise

May 23, 2016

BellaBirthdaySurprise_1 - 15

I love being part of a surprise so I was more than happy to help my BFF Donna when it came time to surprise her oldest daughter, Bella, on her 14th birthday. Bella LOVES Harry Potter, Mike and I gave her the first book and movie several years ago for Christmas, teenagers are prone to be obsessed with something and for her and her friends it’s Harry. One nice thing about her HP love is that it’s led to a fascination with England and all things British, so her mom and dad decided to surprise her with a trip this Summer to London and Donna asked me to help with the big reveal. Last Friday the 20th was her birthday, and she had a party with her friends the weekend before, but she also had an end of school dance Friday evening so we decided to do a surprise reveal about the family’s upcoming Britsh adventure before the dance.

Vladimir Kanevsky Tabletop

April 28, 2016

I hope you’ve enjoyed our look this week at the ceramic sculptures from artist Vladimir Kanevsky, I think his floral work is just beautiful. Today we’re going to wrap up our focus on all things Kanevsky with a peek at his tableware. Kanevsky’s tableware has a very organic look to it, from the cabbage leaf plates to the pumpkin containers, his creations hearken back to antique majolica which I’ve talked about before and how much I like it. Several of the pieces are trompe l’oeil, which is when pieces are painted so specific parts look three dimensional, look for butterflies. Again, I hope you’ve enjoyed this little series and I’m already looking for other artists that we can look at a little more in-depth. Enjoy!!!

I ran into Pier 1 the other day to see what was new and loved what I was seeing, one thing that really stood out were all the gorgeous beaded table runners, just the thing we need to jazz up our dining tables, breakfast tables or sofa tables as we head towards Spring. Pier 1 has lots to choose from, whether you’re looking exclusively for Easter, Spring in general, every day or even something that screams beach. I love all the colors these runners have going on and the fact that they are beaded just ups the ante, these runners are easily something you can mix with decorations you already have or you can go crazy and buy all new stuff to go with your inspirational runner. Here’s a look at what’s available, let me know if you decide to check them out, Enjoy!!!

6 Quick Fall Centerpieces

November 24, 2015

By Tab Byrum

fallcenterpieces_7

I had big plans for a post on decorating your table and fall centerpieces for Thanksgiving, but alas time got away from me and I’m up to neck in decorating client’s homes for Christmas. But, I have found some great ideas that I want to share with you for table decor for your Thanksgiving dinner. I love to have a beautiful centerpiece on the table for any occasion, but I know that’s not always possible, especially if you put the food on the table and aren’t doing a buffet, but remember you can always do a small grouping of flowers and/or candles in the center of the dining table and still have room for plates and food. You can also apply these ideas to your buffet and a lot of people will set up the desserts on a table or buffet of their own so you can decorate that area as well. Whatever you do for decoration don’t stress over it too much, make it easy on yourself and enjoy it, something is better than nothing and as always, Enjoy!!!

Pottery Barn Kids Thanksgiving Finds

November 18, 2015

I keep finding myself drawn back to Pottery Barn Kids, when we had a store here in Oklahoma City I would pop in periodically to see what was new, I always like the colors they use and so many times their holiday designs have a vintage or retro feel to them that I love. Of course, it could also be that I’ve never grown up and the kid in me just likes what he sees. I was on the PBK website the other day looking for Thanksgiving placemats after I put away the Halloween placemats and loved everything I saw, I guess some people decorate whole areas or tables for the children to eat at on the holidays, when I was growing up the kids table was the table in Grandma’s kitchen away from adults. Take a look at the great Thanksgiving merchandise from PBK and don’t even get me started on the Christmas (I already ordered their Christmas placemats). Have fun and Enjoy!!!

Console Table Conversation

September 2, 2015

By Tab Byrum

I LOVE a good console table, here’s a little history lesson, originally all console tables only had 2 or 3 legs located at the front of the table and it was attached to a wall using a bracket called a console, thus the name. Truth be told the original version of the table is still my favorite, although there are some gorgeous tables on the market with 4 legs. Console tables are a great fit in many different places, whether it’s along a wall, behind a sofa, used for a desk or nightstand, the console table is the real deal.

Today you can find them in several different finishes ranging from a wide array of stained woods to metal or even covered in mirror. Console tables are a great place to show off a collection of framed pictures or a grouping of antique boxes or candlesticks. Consoles always look great with a pair of lamps on each end with a beautiful mirror piece of art hanging over the table and if you use a console table that’s open below you can fill that space with baskets, small ottomans or even a fabulous dog bed. Let’s take a look at Console Tables and be inspired, Enjoy!!!
