Friday Artist: LinePosters

While we were in New York City in April we stayed in the Meatpacking District in Lower Manhattan, our hotel was across the street from the Chelsea Market, and can I just tell you it’s AWESOME!! We were in and out of the market a couple of times and one of the times we were able to shop the stalls and booths of the artists and merchants, I made several purchases which I’ll be sharing with you in the weeks to come.  The first booth I visited was LinePosters, I bought two t-shirts because they’re easy to get home in a suitcase, but I fully intend to order some of their artwork.

LinePosters was started by friends Cayla Ferari and John Breznicky when they couldn’t find the transport inspired artwork they wanted for decorating their shared apartment. Cayla, a graphic artist, created an illustration of the NYC subway system that they hung on their wall, it received a lot of comments and compliments, they printed up more and began selling them and soon it became a full fledged business. They’ve added many more line maps and products to their inventory, I definitely want to add their subway maps to our art collection, as we travel and ride subways around the world I can turn to them and order a memory. So far, I can order NYC, London, Washington, D.C. and Paris. So many cities, so little time. Enjoy!!!

Celebrating Bicycles

May 12, 2015

By Tab Byrum

May is National Bike Month, it’s meant to make people aware of all the benefits of bicycling and encourage you to give bikes a try, it’s sponsored by League of American Bicyclists and was started in 1956.

Bicycles were first introduced in Europe in the early 19th century and as of 2003 there have been more than a billion bikes produced, that’s double the amount of cars in the world.  In many countries bicycles are the go to mode of transportation, such as in China and Holland.  Bicycles have come a long way in how they look, but still use the same basic design.  Bikes are used by many people in their day to day jobs, such as messengers and delivery people and their have even been branches of the military that have had bicycle units for troop movement and scouting.  Join me today as we take a look at bicycles, their design and what’s on the market from one of America’s premiere bike makers, Enjoy!!!
