Halloween Napkins From House of Mirth Studio

September 25, 2019

By Tab Byrum

Over the Summer my friend Shana Myers from Ink Stained Fingers and I decided we needed a name change on the business we are attempting to get up and going. We tried to come up with something that we both had in common and certain authors and their works is one of those things. We discovered we both loved Edith Wharton and her stories of life during the Gilded Age of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and we both love her story entitled “House of Mirth“. We are continuing to get things going which isn’t always easy when we both already have businesses we are trying to run, homes, families, parents and everything else that goes along with living.

Personalized Halloween Napkins from House of Mirth Studio

We decided to start small and created some napkins that can be used for the upcoming Halloween holiday and will be especially great if you’re having a Halloween Party or Cocktail Party. You can order from us on our Etsy page here at House of Mirth Studio or let us know through email (tab5@att.net), Facebook  or our website here and we’ll make it happen. I’ll go into detail below with the photos of the new product. Enjoy!!!

A Beautiful Wedding of Pink and White

June 14, 2019

By Tab Byrum

I was able to help this past weekend with the flowers and set up of a wedding here in Oklahoma City. If you follow me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter you might have seen some of the photos I posted while we were working. The Bride was very laid back and was open to whatever we suggested, her only request was Protea in her and her bridesmaid’s bouquets. There were 25 tables at the reception and we did three different centerpieces with candles in hurricane vases on some, low crystal bowls with flowers on some and tall centerpieces using tall vases and plastic holders for the bouquets. I’ll show you the photos I took and go into more detail plus a look at some of the beautiful calligraphy work from Shana Myers over at Ink Stain Fingers. Enjoy!!!

Birra Birra Craft Pizzeria

April 12, 2019

By Tab Byrum

Last weekend Michael and I were invited to the soft opening, kind of a sneak preview, of Birra Birra Craft Pizzeria here in Oklahoma City. Jeff Dixon is one of the owners of Birra Birra and had sent us an invite, full disclosure I’ve known Jeff since he was about a year old when my mom went to work for his dad in his dad’s new medical practice in Weatherford back in the early ’80s.  Birra Birra is GORGEOUS, it has a sleek feel to it with lots of metal, glass and gorgeous light colored wood used everywhere, it feels very California or dare I even say it, very LA. We had signed up for an 11 am reservation on Saturday, we were immediately seated and given menus, I ordered a cider and Michael tried one of their on tap beers and we ordered their Zucchini Fries as an appetizer while we perused the menu. The bar boasts the longest Ice Rail in the U.S., a great way to keep your beverage chilled while you are sitting and enjoying your food at the bar. Birra Birra is part of the Provision Concepts family of restaurants which also includes Hatch, Broadway 10, and Sidecar Barley & Winebar. Enough chatter, I’m going to share the photos I took on my iPhone and I’ll give you more details with the pics. For any of you locals, Birra Birra is located in the Chisholm Creek area of north OKC,  just off the turnpike between Penn and Western. They have a gorgeous patio area that overlooks the lake and fountains. Enjoy!!!

Can you believe we’ve entered into the third month of the year, I can’t!! It’s 23 degrees here today and we had a little ice and snow over the weekend but as fast as time is going it will soon be hot, school will be out and I’ll be posting about the 4th of July. Today we are going to start something new, looking at what special events and days are coming up in the month of March. There are hundreds of events on the calendar every year and each one is given a day of the year to be remembered or celebrated, some of them very popular like St. Patrick’s Day and some of them more obscure like National Cheese Doodle Day which is tomorrow. So, here we go with a peek at March and just a few of the fun things you can enjoy and celebrate during the month. Enjoy!!! (above via)

I’m Back, Hello February 2019!!!!

February 4, 2019

By Tab Byrum

Hello everyone and Hello February!!!! I hope all is good with all of you, sorry for the extended absence here in the ether but there was a lot going on and I decided to take a small hiatus. The holidays were good and very busy, we got everyone’s Christmas decor down and stored away for another year and then I had other stuff I needed to take care of, all of it good. There’s been a change in something I told you about last year but it’s a good change and I’ll go into more detail at a later date. Right now I’m working on getting things lined up for my clients for Valentine’s Day and I’m also working on some projects here at our casa. Michael and I are continuing to study Spanish on our own after taking Spanish classes 1, 2, 3 and 4 at a local Vo-Tech. We are studying using a couple of different apps and websites and making great strides. We don’t have any grand adventures planned this year but I’m sure that will change, not sure we’ll go to Europe this year but there are lots of places here America we have yet to see and visit so we may take short trips of 3 or 4 days and see some places and do some things we’ve been talking about for quite a while.

So, let’s talk February, the second month in the year and the month that most everyone equates with Valentine’s Day, cold weather, and the colors red and pink. I do like February, I’m starting to come out of my post-holiday slump and looking towards the new year ahead of us and hoping to accomplish a lot in the coming months. This year I’m hoping to make some changes here at the blog with the articles I write and the topics I cover. I’m wanting to do more with holidays and celebrations, decorating for these times and events, food, flowers, and sharing with you the things my friend Shana and I are creating for our Etsy shop and website (more on that next week). February is filled with chocolate, champagne, glitter and so much more so let’s take a look at a few things February, I’ll see you back here tomorrow. Enjoy!!!

Sour Cream Sugar Cookies

December 17, 2018

By Tab Byrum

Last week I told you I was going to Mom and Dad’s for the day to see them, have lunch and help mom with some baking and today I wanted to share the results. If we’re friends on Facebook here or here you’ve already seen them but I’ll share recipes and more photos in today’s post. We used to make lots of cut out cookies and decorate them, at one time we even did them for all the holidays and sold cookie bouquets and at one time we also did custom cakes for people for people so luckily we have a little experience with baking, icing, and decorating. We used a new recipe we found this year on the 12 tomatoes website for Sour Cream Sugar Cookies and they are so so good. They were a little sticky when we first started rolling out so we kneaded in a little more flour and let them get really cold in the refrigerator and floured our board really well when we attempted rolling and cutting the dough again and it worked great. For the icing, we used good old buttercream icing that we used to use on 90% of the cakes we did. It’s easy to work with, takes color well and you can pipe and decorated the cookies using any of the cake decorating tips we already had. I’ll go into a little more detail with the photos. If you’re up for baking this is a great recipe and I’m sharing a link to it at the end of the post. Share your photos if you bake and decorate cookies, have a great week as we count down to a big weekend coming up. Enjoy!!!
