Pantone Fall 2017 ~ Navy Peony & Neutral Gray

August 16, 2017

By Tab Byrum

It’s day three of our look at the 10 colors of Pantone that are supposed to be the most popular in the coming Fall and Winter months, today we are looking at Navy Peony and Neutral Gray. I love navy blue, it goes so well with so many colors, especially in fashion. Of their Navy Peony Pantone says, “A mainstay for the season for both palettes, Navy Peony is a dependable and an anchoring shade. Solid and stable, the hue takes some of the load off of black as a go-to neutral.” While I won’t be giving up black for navy I do have a lot of navy in my wardrobe and love to decorate with the color. Gray is still a hot color both in home decor and fashion so it’s no surprise that Natural Gray is on the list of top 10 colors for Fall. Gray is a wonderful neutral color and works with so many other colors beautifully, of Neutral Gray Pantone says, “ The standard bearer of all neutrals, Neutral Gray shares the anchoring role with Navy Peony in this palette. It can be used as an accent or a head-to-toe statement shade.”  Join me now for a look at some examples of our two colors and see how strong they are both together and apart. Enjoy!!! By Tab Byrum

This coming Sunday is Father’s Day, a day we set aside to honor the man who helped bring us into the world or the men who took us in and raised us as well as the men who have been important to us and our families. As with all these holidays, we give gifts and that is not always an easy gesture to accomplish. This week I’m going to share with you some of the items I’ve found that I like and enjoy and that I think would be great gifts for Dad. We are going to start with socks, and before you roll your eyes about socks you have to check out the great designs and styles from Unsimply Stitched. I know these socks won’t be for everyone, but for those Dads who enjoy a little Sartorial panache, they are great. I ordered several pairs of their No Show socks that I like to wear with pants and jeans when you’re wanting to show skin instead of fabric and I also wear them with low top sneakers, like Converse, in the Summer. Here’s a peek at some of the fun and colorful offerings from Unsimply Stitched, Enjoy!!!

Roll & Hill Superordinate Antler Lighting

June 7, 2017

By Tab Byrum

I’ve always had a thing for and really enjoy beautiful lighting, whether it’s a crystal chandelier, a simple table lamp or something more sculptural, lighting for me has always been the jewelry in a room. There’s a rustic side to me and that side loves antler lighting, made from naturally shed antlers, but recently I found lighting made to imitate antler lighting, made of ceramic and it also uses the always popular trend of metallics as well as black and white. I first saw the Roll & Hill Superordinate Antler Sconces in a magazine and that put me on the lookout for what other creations are out there, I was so happy to find ceiling fixtures in different sizes, all the way up to grand chandeliers. All of the fixtures are available in white like in the above photo, some are also available in black and the sconces are available in silver and gold as well. This lighting is a great example of taking inspiration from nature and combining it with some glamor to create something extraordinary. Join me for a look at several pieces of the Roll & Hill Superordinate Antler Lighting and you can see the collection plus so much more on the YLighting website here. Enjoy!!! (above image via)

Bee’s Wrap ~ Sustainable Food Storage

May 16, 2017

By Tab Byrum

Sometimes the old ways are the best ways especially as we take on things like Sustainable storage, something that is quickly becoming popular as we try to figure out ways to live on our big blue planet without harming it and ourselves. Bee’s Wrap is a company that is taking on sustainable food storage and eliminating plastics from our kitchens and was founded by Sarah Kaeck in 2012. Kaeck rediscovered the art of infusing organic cotton fabric with beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin which results in a stylish, washable and reusable alternative wrap to plastic wrap and containers. You use the warmth of your hands to mold the wrap around whatever you are covering, whether it’s a sandwich or a piece of fruit, then as the wrap cools it conforms to the shape of the object and creates a seal. The wraps are usable multiple times and can eventually be disposed of in compost piles or used for other things such as firestarters in fireplaces or when camping. The wraps come in fun colors and patterns, check them out here as well as the different sizes and shapes of Bee’s Wrap, Enjoy!!!

Wallpaper From Rifle Paper Co.

May 15, 2017

By Tab Byrum

In the past I’ve shared several things with you from the Rifle Paper Co., they have wonderful wrapping papers, stationery, art prints, greeting cards and now they also offer fabrics and wallpaper done up in some of their wonderful artwork and prints. I guess I’m going to have to break down and use some wallpaper in our home, I keep coming upon wonderful prints, patterns, and colors and I particularly like some of the ones I’m featuring today from Rifle. Rifle has partnered with Hygge & West out of Chicago to create their papers, MADE IN AMERICA!!

We’re thrilled to debut our first wallpaper collection. We decided to partner with Hygge & West due to their reputation for high-quality printing and papers. Every pattern is screen printed in Chicago on coated, durable, and fade-resistant paper with a technique that gives a hand-painted look. “I originally made this pattern for a Rifle Paper Co. wrapping sheet and I’ve always thought that it would work great as wallpaper. It was one of the first patterns that we incorporated into the collection.” – Anna Bond

I think the large stylized florals would be wonderful in a small room like a powder bath, entry way or on a statement wall in a bedroom. The City Toile would even be great for a boy’s room or in a study and the Pineapple would give a great retro kick to a breakfast room or kitchen. Join me for a look at these wonderful prints and let’s see where you could use some fun and color in wallpaper from Rifle Paper Co., Enjoy!!!

The Little Foxes On Broadway and Sanctuary Hotel

April 27, 2017

By Tab Byrum

A few more items I want to share with you from my recent NYC trip. Before when we’ve gone to New York we always end up shopping and eating out and seeing friends and this time I wanted to make it a priority to see some plays and or musicals while we were in town and boy did we ever. I’ve already shared some with you about seeing Glenn Close in the stage version of Sunset Boulevard and on Tuesday I told you about War Paint, today I want to tell you about the play we saw, Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes. TLF is a play written by Lillian Hellman in 1939 and the first production on Broadway starred Tallulah Bankhead in the lead role of Regina Giddens, the play is set in a small town in Alabama in 1900 and takes a look at the machinations and relationships of a family who are all trying to get ahead in life and how they step on each other in trying to attain their goals. I had only ever seen the movie version of The Little Foxes that stars Bette Davis as Regina, so when I read that a new stage version was being planned for Broadway I really wanted to see it. This new production is starring actresses, Laura Linney and Cynthia Nixon, the two women are trading off playing the role of Regina and another female character, Aunt Birdie. The current production is wonderful and I strongly suggest seeing it, the play takes place entirely in the Giddens home and the scenery for the play is beautiful, a beautiful green covers the wall of the home set and it’s filled with antiques from the early 20th century. The costumes are beautiful and needless to say the acting is extraordinary, in addition to the two actresses I mentioned the play also stars Richard Thomas (The Waltons) as Horace Giddens and Michael McKeon as Uncle Ben Hubbard. I want to share some images from the 1941 movie version of the play plus there’s some pics and a review of our NYC hotel below, Enjoy!!! (above image via)

Easter Tablescape Ideas

April 13, 2017

By Tab Byrum

This week kind of got away from me and I didn’t get the tablescape done that I had planned but I wanted to share table decorations that I came up with a couple of years ago for an Easter table. Everything I used in this tablescape was from the Dollar Store, Big Lots, and Dollar General except for the fresh flowers which you can easily pick up at the grocery store. This decoration was quick, simple, fun and full of bright colors. Remember, you can take any of the ideas from the table and use any one or more of them for your dining table at home, buffet table or even a kid’s table.

To see the whole blog post I wrote in 2015 click here, and as always, Enjoy!!!

I always enjoy flipping through the Grandin Road catalog when it arrives, they always have beautiful stuff year round and it’s a treat to see what they have new every Spring for outdoor use. I love a good bench and Grandin Road always has a lovely collection of colorful seating that can be used either outside or inside. A couple of years ago Mom ordered an indoor/outdoor bench from Grandin Road in a wonderful shade of green, we had a pad made for the bench in black and white houndstooth and it looks great. Their benches are not only beautiful and fun to look at but also comfortable. I want to share a few of the benches with you today and we’ll have a look at other great merchandise from Grandin Road in the days to come, in the meantime Enjoy!!!
