A Weekend In Big D

Good Monday morning, I hope all is well with you and yours on this first day of a new week.  Michael and I went away for the weekend to Dallas, we didn’t do anything this Summer as far as a vacation and there was a play I’ve been wanting to see and Dallas was the closest it was coming to us (more on that tomorrow) so we got tickets and headed south to Dallas.  For those of you not from around here, Dallas is a three hour drive south from Oklahoma City, or a 30 minute plane ride, this trip we drove.

Dallas is fun, it used to be the closest city for major shopping and still is for some stores and brands, but Oklahoma City is starting to get a lot of the stores you had to drive here for.  I come to Dallas a few times a year for Market to look at and order things for decorating jobs so we know our way around fairly well, and of course there’s always our friend GPS.

We stayed in The Magnolia Hotel in downtown Dallas this trip, a great boutique hotel in the building that once housed the Magnolia Petroleum Company.

This 29 story building was the first skyscraper in Dallas and the first high rise in the country to have air conditioning, which is needed in Dallas a lot more than it isn’t.

We were upgraded to a suite by the hotel, no special reason we just were and that’s always nice.

I love staying in these converted boutique hotels, when you can still tell what the building was originally intended for.  The lobby of The Magnolia is so obviously a former office building, same in the hallways and the rooms.  It’s a great hotel though with a complimentary breakfast every morning and a wine and cocktail reception every evening.

We played it low key this trip as far as dining, we had a great burger and fries around the corner from the hotel at the Dallas Chop House Burger, YUMMY!!  We followed dinner with a stroll around downtown then headed back to the room to relax.

Saturday morning we had a great breakfast and strolled around downtown, making a stop at the downtown Dallas Neiman Marcus Department Store, so fun to stop in here and check out what’s going on.

Neiman’s was doing a little preview of the upcoming Christmas book

Love these Country Estate holiday dishes from Juliska

Well that’s all for today on our adventures in Dallas, tune in tomorrow when I tell you about the whole reason for going to Dallas (hint, it involves Barbra Streisand) and our Saturday night and the trip home.

And, come back later today and check out a new post on fabrics.  Have a great Monday!!!!!

Unless otherwise noted, all photos were taken by me.
