330 departments, over a million square feet of floor space, the largest department store in Europe, these are just a few of the descriptors used when talking about Harrods Department Store in London. Harrods was founded in 1824 by a 25 year old Charles Henry Harrod, what started out as a shop selling draperies, men’s clothing and eventually groceries, today is owned by the Royal Family of Qatar after being purchased in 2010 for around 1.5 billion pounds.
Harrods in one of those places you hear about your whole life, but can only be believed by seeing it. We spent a few hours of one of our afternoons exploring a few floors of Harrods and seeing what all the fuss is about…..well worth the visit. Enjoy!!!
I have always heard about the food sales areas of Harrods, and believe me, they didn’t disappoint.
From the amazing chandleliers to the food displays and the marble floors, this is
one heck of a grocery store.

Period hats and aprons are worn by lots of the staff, including this butcher.
Much of the store is already decorated for the Christmas holidays, remember there’s no Thanksgiving in the UK.
I did bring home a couple of ornaments from Harrods to add to the collection.
The main escalator in Harrods is decorated with an Egyptian motif, the former owners were
the Al Fayed family, who were Eyptian.
