Mom And Dad’s Christmas Tour

December 22, 2014

This past weekend there was a Christmas Home Tour in my hometown of Hydro, Oklahoma and my parent’s house was on the tour, their home was one of five on the tour and one of two I helped decorate.

Mom started getting ready for the tour right after Halloween was over, she began decorating bedrooms and other non-public rooms and worked her way up to the front of the house.  The week of Thanksgiving we brought in the big tree and decorated it and finished up the living room, dining room and kitchen, when she hasn’t been busy helping me decorate client’s homes mom has been tweaking everything at her house.

This is the third time their home has been on the tour, everyone says they love to come to their house because it’s warm and homey, we’re all pretty fond of their house as well.  Their home is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath ranch that’s been remodeled and redecorated top to bottom and front to back.

Several years ago they built on the large living area on the back of the house and turned the old living room into the dining room and that was followed by a kitchen expansion/remodel and a remodel of the master bathroom and closet.  Here’s a peek at Christmas in Hydro, America.  Enjoy!!!

A couple of years ago we were in North Carolina and went into a furniture outlet store, we were honestly just browsing.  We found this sofa and a chair and ottoman and mom couldn’t resist, she bought all three pieces and they shipped them home to Oklahoma.  They have been one of the best purchases she has ever made.

These 2 pillows are kind of treasures, mom made them this year from a couple of Christmas sweaters we had.  The one on the left was one of hers and the one on the right was a Ralph Lauren sweater I had in the 90’s.  Needless to say, we’re on the hunt for more sweaters.

She went with a Santa theme in the living room.

Several years ago my dad, Tom,  had a heart attack, after his surgery he started doing jigsaw puzzles during his recovery at home.  Mom couldn’t stand the thought of taking them apart and putting them back into a box so she started having them framed.  Needless to say, lots of the family have an “Uncle Tom” puzzle.

This is one of those plaster Santa statues everyone painted many years ago, I started it as a project and mom finished it.

She has a Snowman theme in the dining room, this is the result of many years of collecting.

She’s had the Snowman candlesticks for quite a while and has started using MacKenzie Childs accessories so this new check table cloth was a natural fit.

Pastry Chef Santa sets the tone in the kitchen.

This little tree at one end of the kitchen is covered in food ornaments and sits in a white antique child’s  high chair.

OK, this is my room at mom and dad’s house.  As you can see we’ve been collecting Snoopy and Peanuts Christmas items FOREVER.  Since Snoopy was always my thing growing up, she goes full on Peanuts in here.  I love it.

Our version of a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree.

Some more of Tom’s handy puzzle work.

Me through the ages, from 1 to early 20’s.  Yes, I’m an only child. Lol

Mom and Dad’s bedroom is decorated in green and white so we used these green trees and a silver Santa.  The little green cross is one found in her Aunt Gertie’s bible that she inherited many years ago, Gertie was using it as a book mark.  Mom had it framed for safe keeping.

Mom calls the spare bedroom her country room, in this room are several antique pieces and it’s decorated in blue and white, thus the white tree and delft blue nativity.

Christmas in Western Oklahoma, a collection of barbed wire and silver holly and berries in a vase.

The Hydro Christmas Home Tour was a big success and mom tells me everyone really enjoyed our hard work.  I hope you enjoyed today’s photo tour and maybe found some inspiration for your home.

All photos are my own.

Yes Sharon, they’ve done this several times now with the money going to a different project in town. This was the third time for mom and dad’s house to be on the tour. Lots of work, but lots of fun. Have a Merry Christmas.

It all looks so beautiful. I need to find a way to get home for the Christmas home tour eventually. You and your mom did a great job.

Thanks Janelle, my mom said she saw your mom Saturday on the tour at the house, it’s definitely worth a trip home if you can work it out. Makes for a fun afternoon.
