We are kicking off the month of March with a Tabulous Tastemaker, taking a look at the life and work of Irish born Interior Designer David Collins. David Collins is considered one of the greatest designers of restaurant and retail interiors, especially in London. Born in Dublin, Ireland on March 1, 1955 David Collins studied architecture at the Bolton Street School of Architecture in Dublin, and established the David Collins Studio in London in 1985.
David Collins designed the interiors for some of the most famous London restaurants, such as The Gilbert Scott restaurant in St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel, the Blue Bar in Belgravia and Nobu Berkley St. In addition to his work on restaurants, clubs and bars Collins designed retail spaces for Jimmy Choo, Alexander McQueen and the famed London Department store Harrods. David Collins was enlisted in the states to design The Charles, an apartment building on the Upper East Side of NYC. Madonna counted David Collins among her closest friends, he designed both her London and New York apartments. Sadly David Collins died in 2013 from Melanoma, passing away only 3 weeks after being diagnosed with the aggressive cancer. Here’s to David Collins an incredible designer and Tabulous Tastemaker.
