This past weekend you may have seen if we’re friends on Facebook that I shared some news and photos from ShanTabulous STudios and if you did YAY!!! ShanTabulous is a new venture I’ve taken on with a friend of mine, Shana Myers, who is an Artist and Calligrapher here in Oklahoma City and has Ink Stained Fingers. Shana has a thriving business doing Calligraphy for parties and weddings and we’ve known each other for close to 20 years. I approached Shana a while back about combining our talents, hers in art and calligraphy and mine in florals and holiday work, and create something we could sell and would enjoy doing. We’re starting with the signs I’m sharing with you today but hope to have some wreaths for both indoor and outdoor as well as more signs for the upcoming Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. We are going for an elegant look on some of our stuff as well as a Vintage or Retro look. We will be offering personalization on our boards and wreaths so if you want something specific with a greeting and your last name let us know. Everything is hand-painted front and back and the images are also hand-painted onto the boards. Shana does all our Calligraphy by hand, NO STENCILS OR PEEL AND STICK letters here. We now have an Etsy store up that you can view here and we’ll be adding a few more Halloween images later this week and get the other holiday merchandise up ASAP. Join me now for a look at these first five signs and let us know what you think, we hope you’re as excited about our products as we are. Enjoy!!!

Groovy Cat & Spider

Shana and I both love all things retro and vintage so when we found the image of this cat and spider we knew we needed to try something with him.

The Cat reminds us of Halloween decorations from our childhood with his big eyes, arched back and a big tail. We want to do fun things like here we used a pumpkin shaped board for our cat and spider, it measure 16″ x 18″.

I paint the boards front and back and I paint the images onto the board then hand them off to Shana. She then paints the message or greeting onto the board by hand and adds the accents and “punches” up the images.

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Shana and I both love silhouette art and when we found this dramatic silhouette of a witch flying on her broom we knew we wanted to use it. The Board is painted a bright pumpkin orange front and back with the witch painted in a black. She is outlined in white to make her stand out and some fashionable features have been added like a buckle on her hat and a belt and buckle around her waist.

The “Something Wicked This Way Comes” is hand-lettered across the top with a hand painted decoration around the edge. Beams of light seem to bounce of her wickedness as she crosses the night sky with her hair, cape, and gown flowing out behind her. The board measures 12″ x 16″.

Monster Mash

This silhouette uses two of my favorite images for this time of year, Frankenstein’s Monster and his Bride. Monster Mash seemed the natural way to go with a message on this holiday boards since even Monsters need love too.

Lightning bolts surround the monsters as they mash their faces together for a spooky kiss. I love the font Shana used, it reminds me of lettering used on monster movie posters in the 1930’s when the Universal Monster movies first came out. We used white paint for the highlights in the Bride’s hair as well as his neck bolt and scar. The board measures 12″ x 18′.

We are both huge fans of Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry and stories and knew exactly how we wanted to use this image of a Raven. Taking inspiration from Poe’s poem “The Raven” I painted the Raven in jet black on a white background and the edged the board in black. Shana wrote the bird’s message of “Nevermore” across the board using black on the white parts and white when the message crossed the raven.

Hand splatters of paint and a fiery orange eye complete the look on this spooky bird. I love the font she used here and the board measures 12″ x 16″.

Vintage Witch Cat

Bright fun colors and a smiling black cat make this Halloween sign more treat than trick. This image reminded us again of Halloween decorations from our childhoods and some from the 30’s and 40’s.

An orange witch’s hat and a polka-dotted bow tie make this guy fun to look at with lots of fun highlights. The board measures 12″ x 16″.

I can’t pick a favorite of our signs but hopefully, you can and if you’re interested you can buy them on our Etsy page here for ShanTabulous STudios. I’ll be sharing all of our creations with as they’re available and look forward to your feedback, please let us know what you think. Have a great day and Enjoy!!!

Words and images are my own.
