Rockefeller Maine Getaway For Sale

August 3, 2017

By Tab Byrum

A few weeks I told you about the New York City home of David Rockefeller that recently came up for sale for $32.5 million dollars and I recently found out about another piece of Rockefeller real estate that came onto the market, Ringing Point. Ringing Point is the name given to the house and grounds in Maine that David and his wife Peggy owned on Mount Desert Island. The house has seven bedrooms and was designed by Peggy Rockefeller in 1972, in addition to the main house there is a guest house with its own two car garage and a building that Rockefeller used for his private study. Mrs. Rockefeller also took great pride in the gardens she designed on the grounds of the estate and they flow effortlessly into the natural moss covered ground and soaring pine trees. As you’ll see in the images I’m sharing today the house is fairly simple compared to the NYC townhouse I shared with you in June and has a wonderful warm feeling to it. If you decide to buy let me know, I’d love to come for a visit, for now, join me for a photographic tour. Enjoy!!!

Oscar Winning Home ~ Jeff Bridges

February 24, 2017

By Tab Byrum

It’s Oscars weekend and we have a winner’s home on the blog today.  I’ve always enjoyed Jeff Bridges as an actor and this year he’s nominated for an Oscar for his role as the sheriff in the film Hell or High Water, it’s his seventh nomination and his beautiful home with an ocean view is for sale. I recently saw this article about the house he and his wife raised their daughters in and have recently placed on the market. The home is almost 9,600 square feet and has five bedrooms and is meant to resemble a hilltop estate in Tuscany only this one has glorious views of the Pacific Ocean. The home also has an antique stone fireplace in the sunken living room, the kitchen has its own dining terrace and there’s a secluded area that Bridge’s wife refers to as “his fort” where he relaxes in his hammock and sometimes works on pottery. If five bedrooms aren’t enough there are two guest houses and walking trails to a local hot spring, all this can be yours for $29.5 million. Let me know if you decide to take a look, I want to tag along. Here’s some pics, Enjoy!!!

Living Large, Being Small

May 24, 2016

By Tab Byrum

Downsizing or living smaller is definitely becoming a trend in this world, whether you’re in favor of it due to personal, economic or environmental reasons one thing for certain is you don’t have to give up style and comfort to do it. I was very intrigued recently when I read an article about The Cottage Co., a company dedicated to “building pocket neighborhood communities of compact homes” in the Pacific Northwest region of the U.S. As you can see from the pictures I’m sharing today the homes all have a definite cottage/farmhouse feel to them and neighborhoods are landscaped beautifully. The homes feature great front porches to sit on and enjoy sunny days, there are wonderful kitchens with tons of storage and dine-in space as well as beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms. Many of the homes feature skylights and vaulted ceilings to help your smaller surroundings not feel so small. I’m definitely interested in this concept, wouldn’t this be a great thing to do in areas of cities that have gotten run down? Hopefully, there will be more companies like The Cottage Co. popping up across the country, in the meantime enjoy these images from their website and click on their name above in orange to visit their website. Enjoy!!!

Mixing Old & New: Warehouse Conversion

April 28, 2016

By Tab Byrum

This week we’ve looked at the term Juxtaposition, repurposing antique furniture using new fabrics and mixing design periods as far as art and interiors so I thought today we would look at mixing old and new by taking an old building and converting it into a new home. We’ve looked at conversions before with old schools and barns and today we are going to look at taking old warehouse spaces and making them livable spaces for you and your family. Warehouse spaces are great because most of the time they offer huge amounts of space in the form of high ceilings and big open areas. It might take a lot of planning, work and money to convert a warehouse space but most of the time they turn out awesome. Here’s a look at the ultimate in old and new mix-ups, Enjoy!!! Smoky And Sexy In The Mountains

April 7, 2016

By Tab Byrum

What do you do when you want a retreat in the mountains but you don’t want everything to be log cabins and pinecones? You call in a professional, and that’s just what a California family did when they brought in designer Jamie Bush, Bush says when he asked his new clients what they were looking for in their new home they had two words, “Tom Ford“. The couple says they love the integrity of Tom Ford’s clothing creations along with the cut of the clothes and the quality of fabrics, the homeowners are both techies and have three children. I love this house, the colors that are used, the textiles and the juxtaposition of a sleek, contemporary look against the mountains of Tahoe. Jamie Bush did an amazing job, have a peek here and head over to Elle Decor for more information, Enjoy!!!

Fun Friday ~ 1960’s Hawaiian Manse

February 5, 2016

By Tab Byrum

I love to peruse real estate websites and see what’s for sale and how they’re decorated, you can get some great ideas both on what to do and what NOT to do. I was looking at Curbed recently and saw this Mid-Century dream home in Hawaii.

Construction on the house was completed in 1963 and since then the same family has owned the home, the current owner is the son of the original builder/owner. 53 years after it was originally built the home still retains all its charm, with a spiral staircase, terrazzo floors, glass walls and a large pool. The house is 4,000 square feet and sits up above a cul-de-sac with views of both the ocean and volcanoes. Join me for a little tour of this mid-century marvel and let me know if you make an offer, at $3.6 million, someone is sure to grab it up. Enjoy!!!

Fun Friday~Lenny Kravitz’s Paris Apartment

January 22, 2016

By Tab Byrum

I always try to have fun here on the blog and never be too stuffy, but I thought I would start trying to focus on fun things on Fridays, you know things that get an “Oh My” or make us squeal and I’m kicking Fun Fridays off with a look at the Paris home of rocker Lenny Kravitz.

I’ve been a fan of Kravitz for quite a while, even more, when I found out his mom was Roxie Roker who starred as George Jefferson’s beautiful and ahead of her time neighbor, Helen Willis. The Kravitz abode in Paris is a 16,000 square foot, 4 story home that was originally built in 1920, the home sits on a cul-de-sac on what’s called a quiet street and backs up to a private park and the home was completely redone in 2008.  Sounds PERFECT!!!! You can supposedly rent the Paris domain for around $250,000.00 a month or if you’re willing to do a long-term lease the price goes down to $175,000.00 a month. Since I’m not quite able to afford the rental I’ll have to settle for these pictures, but it’s nice to dream, Enjoy!!! Read More

Joan Rivers’s NYC apartment has recently sold, the penthouse was on the market for 5 months following the comedy legend’s death last September. The home is very glamorous with gilding on the walls, opulent fabrics and carpets, 2 kitchens, 4 bedrooms and a ballroom. There hasn’t been a contract filed on the sale yet, so it’s not known what the final price paid is, but the most recent asking price was $28 million. For a better look at the interiors of this beautiful home click here to visit the House Beautiful article on the apartment and it’s sale. Enjoy!!!
