4 Book Recommendations From Tabulous Tomes

May 13, 2016

I’ve told you before how much I love to read, I always have a book going and I try to read some every night before going to sleep. I love all types of books: fiction, non-fiction, fantasy, mysteries, anything historical, but my favorite genre of books is the biography (and autobiography). I really enjoy getting to learn about people, I think people are fascinating creatures and learning why they did what they did when they did it is so much fun. I enjoy reading about celebrities and movie stars, political leaders and their families, royalty and of course artists and designers from both the worlds of interior design and fashion design. Today I want to share with you a few of the books I’ve finished over the last few weeks and hope to make this a regular feature here on the blog. I hope you see something on here you like and let me know if you decide to read any of them, Enjoy!!!

A Fine Romance by Candice Bergen

I’ve always been intrigued by Candice Bergen’s life story, growing up in Hollywood and Beverly Hills the daughter of Edgar Bergen, a man who gained fame and fortune from being a ventriloquist on the radio. In A Fine Romance Bergen shares her life with us after she leaves home and sets out on her own, the story of her first apartment in NYC and her modeling career which led to acting and movies. Finding love with French movie director Louis Malle and the story of their life together here in America and at their country home in France, as well as the struggles she had as a first-time mother when her daughter Chloe didn’t seem to bond and was distant. Candice Bergen relates what it was like when she finally found almost overwhelming success as the lead in the 1980’s sitcom Murphy Brown, which brought her fame and fortune as well as taking a toll on her marriage. Bergen is very candid about the struggle she and her family faced when Louis Malle was diagnosed with a brain condition that eventually led to his death in 1995. Today Bergen has love again in her life with her second husband Marshall Rose which involved leaving Los Angeles and returning to New York as well as a new relationship with daughter Chloe. If you enjoyed Bergen as Murphy Brown then you’ll enjoy this book that’s both a walk down memory lane as well as a confession of sorts, funny warts and all.

It’s Friday so it’s time for another edition of Friday Design Roundup. We’ve got news on a little bit of everything from fine art to coloring books and pool floats. Check ’em out, have a great weekend and Enjoy!!!

There’s a new museum coming to Paris and it will house the collection of one man. French businessman and art collector, François Pinault announced this week that he will turn a former Paris Stock Exchange building into a museum to house part of his mammoth art collection. The building dates back to the 1700’s and will be restored by Pinault as part of the 50-year lease deal he reached with the city of Paris. No timeframe has been given as to when the museum might open, but the sooner the better. (information and image via)

Earlier this year I had read that the famed Four Seasons Restaurant in NYC was closing, this was one NYC restaurant that I never made it to, and now we find out that July 26 has been set as the date for an auction for pieces of the interior of the iconic restaurant. The Four Seasons is located in the Seagram building on Park Avenue and has been the scene for an untold amount of power lunches and was a truly see and be seen spot. On a happier note,  the restaurant will reopen in another location. The last day of business will be July 16th and the auction will take place on-site July 26.

Some happy news from the world of British television, Benedict Cumberbatch has been spotted in London in his Sherlock Holmes costume. No word on when new episodes of the Masterpiece series will be available in the UK or the US but with Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman both seen in costume it’s a good sign. I’m betting on this fall, here’s wishing. (information & image via)

Color me in!!!! Word came on Wednesday that there will be a new “David Bowie: Starman” coloring book for adults released soon. Grab a bottle of your favorite vino, a box of crayons, Bowie’s greatest hits and settle in around the kitchen table and spend and evening with the Chameleon of Rock and Roll.

Get out your air pump this summer as you hit the patio and pool, you’ll need it to blow up this new Inflatable Patio Furniture which can also be used in the pool. The new collection is from Pigro Felice, you can create your own custom floats by mixing and matching all the pieces you have to choose from. I’m not much of a hot weather person, but having some of these floaties might change my mind. (information & image via)

Tabulous Tomes: Golden Girls Forever

April 14, 2016

If you’re anything like me and came of age in the 1980’s then you loved your 80’s television shows, whether it was Dynasty and Dallas or Cheers and Family Ties. One show that premiered halfway through the decade in 1985 was Golden Girls and because of that, television has never been the same. Last week on April 5th a new book titled Golden Girls Forever came out covering the story of Golden Girls, from its beginning to its end and all the hilarity in between. Jim Colucci is the author of Golden Girls Forever, I first became familiar with Colucci through the radio, I was an avid fan of the Frank DeCaro Show on Sirius XM’s OUTQ and Jim Colucci is married to Frank DeCaro. In addition to being an author Jim Colucci is a freelance entertainment writer, he would appear on DeCaro’s radio show once a week to bring the listeners up to date on all the news from the world of television.

In The Barn With Ina

August 20, 2015

By Tab Byrum

I was excited to see this House Beautiful article on Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa, and her barn. A few years ago Ina built a barn on her property in East Hampton, NY, it’s where she records her show and cooks for large groups. Her barn is inspired by buildings in Belgium and the work of Belgian designer Axel Vervoordt. I love everything about this building, from the simplicity of everything and the masculine feel of it to the neutral color scheme. Check out the article by clicking here and Enjoy!!!
